Hi,
I'm coming down to the Cape Coral area next week to seek out a possible home to get away from the cold winter months here in NJ. I don't have much time and was looking for a waterfront property with a dock to keep a boat for fishing and leisure boating. I've been checking out affordable homes online and found quite a few but was wondering about the sections of CC that are more desireable. Even if you think that something out of the Cape Coral area would better suit my needs I would love to hear from you. Basically I'm looking for something close to a major airport (Fort Myers, in this case) where I could easily hop on a flight out to NJ and get down there without much problem. Thanks

We too are flying into Fort Meyers, on Monday, and we're meeting up with some very fun-seeming and knowledgable people at Harpoon Harry's in PUnta Gorda on Monday night at 7. We're also looking for properties in Port Charlotte. If you'd like to meet up with us all, feel free!

Gulf access, preferably close to the river or open water.

Look into the Punta Gorda area. Charlotte harbor is a large body of protected water fed by two rivers, the Peace and the Myakka. You will find affordable waterfront homes. Also check out South Gulf Cove, which is on the west side of the harbor. The waterway will put you out in the mouth of the Myakka.
If your looking for water front with a big view at an affordable price check out Harbour Heights. You can find riverfront pool homes in the high 300k range. Living directly on the Peace River you'd have quick access to Charlotte Harbor.

SW Cape Coral area would give you river access, closest to the open water of Pine Island sound. Traditionally one of the better fishing areas around. Two large marina communities located there also..Tarpon Point and Cape Harbor provide ship stores, fuel dock and bait sales. Cape Harbor also has lots of shopping and restaraunts as well, accesible by boat. Approximatly a 35-40 minute drive out to the airport (RSW) from this area.

My husband and I are interested in purchasing a home in the cape coral-punta gorda area. We want something on water. The prices on the fresh water versus gulf access canals are much less expensive but we are concerned about the amount of freshwater fishing. Can anyone provide information on fishing the freshwater canals and lakes. I have searched the internet to find information on the size of the lakes such as Kennedy and Saratoga but haven't found anything. We are used to lake fishing and have a pontoon boat. If we buy a gulf access home which gives access to tons of fishing we will need to purchase a boat that is conducive to saltwater. Appreciate any suggestions or inoformation.
