Hate to jump in late on this thread because you've probably already made your decision.

My son has been at FGCU for two years now and really loves the school....and he'd be the first to voice any complaints if he had them!

As far as tuition goes...it won't be as much as you're stating.

Out of state tuition is $518 a credit....if you took 12 credits that would be $6200 a semester and if you took 15 credits it come to something like $7500.

Your room and board is extra....but you stated you didn't need that at this time.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Mikey

If I was starting out and looking for decent weather and a decent job market, I would finish school up there and look in Texas for work. Maybe Orlando/Tampa.

Just my opinion, but paying out of state tuition for a public school is stupid, especially in this economy. Ohio State is a great school, finish up there and go to grad school or get a job in Florida. Nobody outside of the state of Florida has heard of FGCU. I'm not saying it's a bad school as I really don't know anything about it, but you should stay where you're at for now.

I am about to graduate from FGCU this December and actually just moved to Ohio so I am doing it from a distance. I would not recommend moving to go to FGCU. I really did not enjoy my experience. Most of the staff is not very bright and the only good things about the school were that they had the major I wanted and their dorm rooms were sweet. But since you will not be living in the dorms, you'll be missing out on that. There are quite a few malls in the area but as far as nightlife, especially at 19, there is NOTHING to do. Sorry to seem like a downer, but if I had the opportunity to go to OSU I would have definitely gone there.

My husband went to FGCU for a semester back in 2002 or so. He hated it and left to finish his AA at Edison Community College, before we moved to Orlando and went to UCF. For whatever reason FGCU has you take several extra BS classes that we never encountered at UCF. Things like "Styles and Ways of Learning" and the like. Granted, maybe it has gotten better since 7 years ago or so, but if it's still that way, I definitely would not suggest moving all the way down here to go to a mediocre school in a very mediocre city.
