Default Marco Island schools

My husband and I are thinking of moving to Marco next year after he is retired from his job. We have a son who will be in 6th grade by then and can attend the charter middle school. My biggest worry is when he is ready for high school - I have heard nothing but bad things about Lely. Can anyone tell me the real story about Lely and how good/bad things are? Do all kids on Marco go there or do they go somewhere else for high school? Any info would be appreciated. We are very familiar with Marco as we have relatives who are still living there and some who have moved away. Any other advice concerning Marco Island would also be appreciated.

saying that any plans to build a HS on Marco have been scraped. They cited declining enrollment. Although Lely is the closest HS to Marco, there is still school choice and you can request he go to the other high schools in Naples. It will be a very long ride though. I think Naples HS would probably be the closest after Lely. Barron Collier is still farther away.

TAN is right about it being a very long drive to Naples High.

Don't know if Catholic school is appropriate for you but this is something to think about. My daughter went to St. John Neumann HS in Golden Gate. That is also a very long ride from Marco but quite a few of her classmates were from Marco. They had the "Marco bus", which the parents paid for, transport the kids.

Lely High is very diverse with kids from 37 countries. Many of the students do not speak English at home. The diversity brings with it positives as well as negatives.

What else do you want to know about Marco?
