Default Single middle aged professional women looking to settle in Fort Myers area

I am looking into options for a government job, have interviews set up, and am trying to decide if Fort Myers area would be good for me. I currently live in a pretty dull town so I don't need tons of excitement.
However, what I would like is people my age-mid forties (including eligible professional men), some evening activities, a place with some charm, nice neighborhood, and friendly people. I do LOVE the beach and warm weather. I can afford a house payment of about $1000 a month with taxes/insurance. What about the sewer fees?
Would this area be a good pick? What types of fees with housing should I consider? Are backyard pools a good idea? Are alligators a problem in the waters? Is it easy to meet people who have varied interests?

My other thoughts are San Antonio, TX, Honolulu, HI (lived there already), and or maybe someplace here in NC. I've lived all over the place including the northeast, California, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Fl.

What are some of the things I may like and what things should I really consider before moving to this area?
