the latest data I've seen regarding sea level rise is that it has been on a rising trend for the past 6000 years and is rising at like a .03 millimeters per year at the current pace it would take centuries to make any difference. measuring sea level is tricky because of how they have measured in the past could have just been a result in errosion or the ground sinking. There are tetonic plates that are constantly moving. some are pushing parts of the earth upward (such as the himalyas) and some are being pushed into Mariana's trench which is off the coast of California and the amount that is rising is equal to the amount that is sinking, there are parts of the world where the sea level is lowering. The bigger danger in florida is storm surge which could increase due to the gulf of mexico's warming causing more frequent and stronger hurricanes. There are all different things in the world that naturally occur. Yellowstone is a super volcano that erupts every 300,000 or so years and it is overdue and the explosion and damage would be far reaching. If the tidal wave, hurricane, volcano, asteroid hits I'd rather be drinking a frozen drink by the pool than freezing my butt off next to a bison. pick your poison

Well, that would be a great little example if it were accurate. Unfortunately for you, it's not.

are you saying if the ice cubes melt the glass overflows??? water expands when it freezes and contracts when it melts. I think yachtcare's post is correct. but I may as well fill a glass with ice right now and fill it up to the top with water and come back in an hour.

well after an hour and a half all of the ice is still not melted but about 66% I filled glass over the top with crushed ice and all the way to the top rim with water and as the ice melted and sunk into the glass not one drop has overflowed level of water is slightly below rim.

Your ice is completely submerged in the water. A polar ice cap is much different. Not even getting in to the major logistics of it, the ice caps are massive sheets of ice land mass. On top of these sheets of land ice is more snow and ice. If the land ice melts then the snow and ice piled atop the land ice is then in the ocean as well, thus creating a higher water level.

All that "land ice" wouldnt amount to but a few drops compared to the oceans. Besides that it hasnt stopped snowing everywhere in the world.
Most real scientists agree that this whole thing about global warming is a fraud. Who sholud I believe, them, or a bunch of money grubbing politicians that already have new taxes planned based on global warming.
The only thing in danger from global warming is my wallet.

Okay~ there are smart people on both sides of that argument, but please-let's talk about living on a canal.
Are there benefits of living on a canal besides having the water in your backyard? For example, can you have a dock and get to the ocean from your canal? Can you canoe in it or would you even want to with all of the alligators? Are there more snakes and other critters if you live on the canal?

if you have a gulf access canal you would be able to get to the ocean, I see a lot of people kayaking, If you like to boat , fish, kayak then I would say it is worth, taxes would be higher and insurance is probablh higher, but resale would be higher (probably) as well.
