My sisters brother in law's family moved to cape coral from LI....honestly, its been a complete disaster. They lost their house to foreclosure, no jobs, no money, marriage broke apart, kids flipped out. Found part time jobs at olive garden and a bookstore, his parents helped them get back in another house, marriage hanging by a thread and almost everyone they knew has left town for jobs elsewhere. In his attempt at humility he's described the area as an economic ghosttown but i guess is stoo stubborn to leave and will let his wealthy parents bail him out. i would think long and hard before moving to swfl or anywhewre in florida unless u know how u will earn a living

I'm a Long Islander, through and through, and am leaving tomorrow to spend the next 4 months back there, thank Heavens! We've lived in Naples for the past 3 1/2 years. Before that we were snowbirds--THAT I really liked. My husband likes it here and I don't--at all. I think the people in SW FL, mostly mid-westerners don't like NYers and I don't "get" them. I'm sick of being insulted right to my face about NYers as though I'm not one when they know I darn well am! It just happened to us last weekend by someone who I've cooked at least 20 meals for since we moved here and he's by far not the first person to do. They grow very big "cantalopes" in the mid west!

Naples also is crowded in winter and empty in summer with hurricane shutters all over our neighborhood. It looks like foreclosed houses do on LI--hard to get used to. And, the shifting population is weird. I don't know if that holds true in CC, probably not.

Medical care stinks here compared to the NY & LI area.

Schools stink here also.

On the good side, the weather is fabulous in the winter and there's lots to do if you like local site seeing.

Good luck! Everyone feels differently about things. Different strokes for different folks. I hope you love it!!!
