Since the day I arrived in Cape Coral, prices are constantly fallen and everybody wants to leave. Once you live here, you know why. Panic in silence!![/quote]

I think firstimeowner's question was valid of wanting to know your info on what you mean by "once you live here , you know why." if you have some info that could help someone that just bought a house here why not share it?

Great!! SE is a great section of Cape Coral, with lots of places around. I wish you the best. Cape Coral is a great place to be!!

Very best of Luck. I bought most of our furniture from Matter Bros in Ft. Myers. We use pool and lawn cutter from the Cape, never a problem.
We are in SW off veterans, glad to send you info if you send a DM

Rent first, then decide BY YOURSELF what to do next. Be careful who is giving you advice. Realtors are everywhere. Smelling money, they follow you even in this forum.

So you bought wrong! You paid too much in the wrong area, that's all.
I paid cash for a very, very SW home, which I could sell today for 40% more than I paid 6 months ago....but I am not going to, it's a very nice house with very nice neighbors and best of all NO DOGS!.
What is your problem with realtors? I had a very, very honest one.
So who would you suggest getting advice from? Your cousin, your neighbor, your brother/sister in law, or god forbid, a lawyer?
And if it's so bad here for you..........you can always leave!

thanks for saying what I was thinking , we're suppose to take financial advice from someone who bought at the top of the market? if someone bought a house and had to finance 200k the recent rise in interest rates would cost them $45k more in finance charges over the life of a 30 yr mortgage. sometimes the price isn't everything.

I just bought a home in the NE Cape. I checked on the neighborhood and am very pleased with my decision on buying there. The neighbors are great , the street I bought my house has well kept homes and stable residents who are not in foreclosure.

I am now in NJ for the summer and going back when the weather turns colder here. While I spent four months in Cape Coral the first part of 2009 I got to know the area. It is quiet and different there. Lots of sun ! We bought a foreclosure that was never lived in at a great price.

Best of luck to you on your purchase. We too are retired and life is good at any age.

There are good areas in all four quadrants of CC. Of course, one quadrant is better than the other three.
Buying local is good, but occasionally, Walmart does offer the best alternative for a few things.
Some have posted surprise and almost shock at the thought of living in Florida full time!.....
Let me just say that perhaps they are probably too steeped in their northern lifestyle and probably should stay home as they would never fit in, because Florida is what it is.
We have had our primary residence in Fort Lauderdale since 1979 ( ahh, the good old days), then we lost our waterfront Las Olas isles condo to hurricane Katrina (yes, there were other victims of this hurricane besides the ones in New Orleans!). So after buying and selling 2 places in Largo and Tierra Verde, we recently moved to Cape Coral.
It is not perfect, there is a lack of nearby beaches and you have to drive everywhere........other than that it is very nice..... and quiet.

Actually,we've been coming to Ft Myers for years so we know the area pretty well.We didn't worry about "positive spin" from realtors because we checked the area out very well....SE off Del Prado and lots of nice neighbors and boaters.Very few homes for sale in a 6 block radius. Not worried too much about crime because NH and Fla have reciprocal "carry" laws.
