Ft Myers vs Sarasota for 30-something singles?
Hi,
My brother (37) and I (34) are both single and we want to move to Florida. We are thinking of Sarasota or Ft Myers. We have to live within 1 hour from Tampa International Airport of Ft Myers airport. Everyone says Sarasota is better. However, it is far from Tampa. We visited Ft Myers and saw Estero. It is so new and pretty. Gated communities, shopping centers, etc.
Any advice on best neighborhoods? Which city would you choose being single?
P.S. I am a nurse and would work in obgyn. Not sure where those jobs would be more plentiful..
Thanks!

We are more than an hour to Tampa and not near as much fun as the St. Pete- Sarasota area. Much more to do there and not so many old people.....................................

If I were you I would never move to Fort Myers. I work in the school system here and this place is a joke. Because we have so many senior citizens living here they do not want to invest in anything to do with young people (education, recreation, etc...)Pretty much the only thing to do is go out to eat. Yes Estero is very pretty and new but it is expensive and the people are very snobby. I would suggest you looking in to Clearwater or Dunedin. I lived both places and it is very much a young city. Very close to Tampa airport (about 35 mins.) Just so you know the saying around Fort myers is "land of the dead or newlywed" Good luck on what ever you choose. My husband and I and our 2 little girls are looking to move out of this area so we may have a house for sale if you are interested.

Sarasota is better than Fort Myers. A little bit younger and the culture and vibe is definitely better. Fort Myers is very low rent. Even if the people have some money they don't act like it. Rude.
I moved there in my mid-thirties. Other than meeting my husband and having our daughter, it was a massive mistake.
The Tampa area is much nicer. Much younger.
If you notice, even on the forums, it attracts a certain type of people. And it seems to be worse, now. Lots of down-on-their-luck people hoping that the cheap houses and the warmth will be their salvation. I predict that as bad as the people were, four years ago, it is going to get much worse.
Lots of broke seniors along with others coming down without jobs.
Do yourself a favor and head towards Tampa. More "normal" people.
