Lehigh Acres?
I see a lot of chatter about CC/FMY, but what about Lehigh Acres? What makes living there 'inviting' and repugnant. Please skip the employment stuff, I know, I'm a nurse..

Of all the places to pick, Ted.
This is personal a favorite post about Lehigh Acres.
"I just moved out of Lehigh Acres, I lived there for four years, I am a firefighter, I lived in a neighborhood with a lot of firemen and cops. Lehigh became so bad, that I surrendered my house, out of fear for my family's safety, and I am from Gary, IN. So you know it is bad, Lehigh has a lot grow houses, want a be gangbangers, and a lot of the negative miami influence. I would not live there or Cape Coral."
It's in this thread.

People don't agree on much in the Fort Myers forum but they all agree that Lehigh is the pits.
Umm. Since when did you become a nurse? Last I heard you were working at Blockbuster.

Great quote!!
I was working @ BB until thanksgiving a year and a half ago. Not too long after that, I lost my "real" job @ Team Health, then I treaded (I know) water for about 6 months @ the Marathon helpdesk for SAIC for Company X for company Y for company Z. Being the subcontractor to the sub to the sub to the sub was the last straw for me and IT. I started LPN school @ TTCK last September, and will graduate at the end of August. It's been a long strange trip, but I am so much happier and fulfilled in what I am doing then before that the pay cut is WELL worth it!!

Good for you!
I'm out on sick leave. If and when I get better I would love to go into real estate. I think it's where I belong. I hope to never see the help desk, again.
Do NOT move to Lehigh Acres. I just came across this article. The headline says Immokalee teen but the setting is Lehigh.
Immokalee teen charged with calling 911 from backseat of patrol car : Crime : Naples Daily News
The place was never much to begin with. It started as a land scam, and if my memory serves me correctly the guy ended up going to jail or at least filed bankruptcy. That was decades ago. But now the place is a sewer.
The New York Times did a piece on Lehigh not that long ago. It has pictures and a slide show and graphics. Lays out the whole mess for you.

GGE??
So I went down last week, stayed through the weekend, and am going to buy a house there. Why? Because the house I found is one of the few houses there that are brand new (builder repo'd) and it's in one of the better neighborhoods. Is it perfect? No, but it's certainly not worse then where I live now, and it's a lot cheaper and closer to the ocean.

I found several beautiful homes in GGE. However, every time I got out of my car a neighbor's dogs began growling & barking at me. After what I just went through with a neighbor, I would either go crazy or kill myself. I love dogs, and I hope to get at least 1 or 2 once I get settled, but why people get pets and tie them up outside 24/7 is beyond my understanding. Anyway, that was my experience. I also drove around and saw many abandoned homes with trash all over the yard.

What area is closer to the Gulf? (Not the ocean. The Atlantic is on the east coast of FL) If you are talking about Golden Gate Estates, it depends on how far out you live. The home I looked at for $149,000 was even further than Waterways and Orangetree. I drove down Oil Well and then have no idea how far I went ... almost to Ave Maria. (I love my GPS! It got me home.)
Ps: Just teasing, but if you move here, you better get used to it if you say "ocean." LOL
Edit: Just reread your post. Thought you were comparing Lehigh with GGE. Sorry. Anyway, good luck in your new home.

I don't see how GGE can be considered one of the better neighborhoods of Naples. Am I confused? (I'm not being facetious.)

We bought a foreclosure on the NE end & the area is nice. Quiet, clean, not alot of rukus. Away from the crowd & we have 2 1/2 acres.
