Dock Permits
Looking at a place in unincorporated Lee Co. Has anyone gone through the permit process of getting a wooden dock put in? A few years ago I heard that the county had put a moratorium on dock permits, but our realtor claims that they've greatly loosened the criteria since (although he had no specific info).
So has anyone gotten a small dock put in? Is is an enormous and expensive hassle? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've put several docks and lifts in over the past several years. The bottleneck is DEP (Department of Environmental Protection). I have not heard of anyone being denied a permit to install a dock but concern over manatee regulation enforcement can result in delays.
Your best bet is to contact a contractor and ask how long it's taking to go through the permitting phase. I experienced 3-4 months going through DEP, Army Corp, and Charlotte County permit offices.

The permits are not as difficult to obtain as they were a couple of years ago. We used a company called Trademark Dock Boatlift & Seawalls from North Port to do our seawall, dock and boatlift. They did a good job and were very reasonable on price. They obtained the permits in about six weeks.

Thanks for the input, folks. Would anybody mind sharing how much they paid for the dock and/or lift, including permits, just to use as a ballpark figure?

A forty foot T dock with stairs cost me $7500 with a 10000lb lift and wrapped pilings another $6500.
