Default Lehigh- anyone like it?

I was wondering if there are any areas in Lehigh that are any good to live in or if Lehigh is a total loss?

There are lots of threads regarding the issue. There is even one that is on the front page of the forum right now.

The New York Times did a story on the area. Front page.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/08/us...20acres&st=cse

I didn't like it four years ago and it didn't have the problems that it does now, but it was starting to. During the height of the housing boom, that cheapest place to live in Lee County was Lehigh. It started attracting the wrong people then. Once the bust came it became a disaster. But it's always looked like a place that never got it's act together. A few houses and then just sand and a few neglected palm trees. Next street, same thing. Now it looks worse.

In my opinion, Lehigh Acres is a loss. The crime is awful there. You wouldn't feel safe. If you want to be in Lee County, I suggest looking around in Cape Coral.

Kool,

First and foremost: GO THERE!! Just because most here hate it and I like it doesn't make any of us right for what your tastes are. Go to a realtor, get a list of houses you'd consider, and look around. Most importantly do your homework, do your homework, do your homework!! If you visit the place and research it carefully, you will find a lot of the information here is a couple months old. Some people blindly saying Cape Coral, which MIGHT work for them, but to me the thought of paying $2 a trip from FMY to "go home" is atrocious!! Think about the way the zoning in each area works and how that may impact any plans you might have. It's a lot of work to do proper research, but it's a lot better then just taking someone's word (including mine) for it.

With all due respect, you have chose the wrong place to live before, blindly ignoring other's counsel and then complaining when it didn't work out. And for the record, you have been there ONCE, for a short visit, and don't live in the area, nor have you ever lived there.

If you want to jump off the cliff, then so be it, but don't drag other people with you.

Hik, RE: ", you have chose the wrong place to live before, blindly ignoring other's counsel and then complaining when it didn't work out." Prove it. I'm not leaving here because it was the wrong move, and I am CERTAINLY not moving from here because of any of the factors you "counseled" me on.

Whoa. You may have had a "good" experience in Lehigh Acres, but I can tell you the times I went there it was trashy and just downright disgusting. Lehigh makes Fort Myers look like paradise. All you have to do is pick up a newspaper and look at the crime section. Yes, Lehigh Acres is cheap. THAT is why it has so much crime, because the low class is what lives in Lehigh, and it is typically (NOT always) but typically the low class that commits the crimes as they are in need of money for food.... or drugs & booze. My point is that Lehigh DOES have problems and I would suggest looking in Lehigh EXTREMELY before even considering moving there. If you do, you may be putting yourself in danger. I'm not joking around either.

Also to your comment about the person who "blindly" said Cape Coral, you need to think again. It would seem that I am not the one with blindfolds on or else I might have given Lehigh Acres a thumbs up. ANY place is Lee County would be better then Lehigh, even Fort Myers, which is generally a disliked city on this forum. Do some research, please.

For once in a long time, I agree with hiknapster. The person who started this thread needs to look at stats and news and they will see all they need to know, and will hopefully choose a city elsewhere to save themselves from extreme danger.

I said 'blindly' suggesting CC because there are restrictions on properties there that don't exist in other parts of Lee County. Some people are great at following them, others are not. I wasn't suggesting CC was a BAD place to live, just that it might not meet all the needs of a perspective buyer.

I think we all can agree on one thing.. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH.

When I first came down to SW Fl that is where we were going to look for a house. Than we started watching the news and it seemed most of the bad news came from Lehigh. Most people refer to it as Lehigh Stinkhigh. There is a couple nice sections but mostly dumpy looking. If you come down and look you will see, but don't waste your time. Cape Coral is much nicer and way safer.
