I didn't see North Carolina on your list of possible places to live. My BIL moved there about 3 years ago and is a native of New England. They love it, and the cost of living is not high. I think you need to consider how happy you would be living where most of the year is very hot.

There are two seasons in Florida.
Summer
Not so summer.
The changes between the two are insignificant for those not used to having to invest time and energy to seem them. The signs are there, and the real beauty is you don't spend 4-6 months looking at bare trees like you do up north.

No, no, no, trust me the cape is as boring as it gets. PLEASE look at my location and see how I wrote where I live, doesn't that give it away? I really think the entire area from Sarasota south is pretty boring. I liked it when I lived in Melbourne, because I was 1.5 hours from Orlando, now there is a place with things to do. Bradenton was good too, so close to St. Pete/Tampa. Also I like the beaches on the East coast a lot better than down here. BUT, I am basically stuck here, being I have a job, thankfully. Know what I mean? Sorry if I got defensive. I am just not a fan of Naples, there if you are loaded it's great, if you make a regular persons pay, forget it. My idea of fun is not malls, yes I like to go to the mall on occasion and walk around with my family, but it's not my thing(don't forget I am a guy ) I have also seen parts of Naples that looked like Dunbar, so it's just no better than any other city, but people make it out to be.

Sarasotadreaming said she was looking for a place to live that was lively. I said that Sarasota might be a better choice because it's larger, has many more people and is approx 110 miles closer to Tampa. If you're hoping to find work, Cape Coral definitely isn't the city I'd suggest unless you already have a job. (neither is Naples or Sarasota in this market)
Although both Cape Coral and Naples aren't swinging hot spots, as I already said, Cape Coral isn't a resort town like Naples that caters to the wealthy tourists. You can't possibly tell me that there is more to do on the Cape. Also, depending in what part of Naples one resides, you are only 2 exits away from the Miromar Outlets, the Germain Arena, a very short drive to Coconut Point Mall and the Coastland Mall is close to downtown Naples. If you are talking about the City of Naples (not including Golden Gate) it's not a very large area. It takes me less than 25 minute to get to the Coastland Mall from Bonita Beach Road which is just a few miles north of the northern tip of Naples. Sterling Oaks is on the Bonita/Naples border.
You can add the beach to the above list. Naples has its own beaches of course, but my favorite in the area is Barefoot Beach at the end of Bonita Beach Road SW. If you live in Naples, you can get a Collier County parking sticker. Wiggins Pass State Park is another beautiful beach in North Naples as well as Vanderbilt Beach where there's a lot of fine restaurants and shops. You are also close to Marco Island which is a nice place to visit, although I like the beaches in Naples more.

Don't know if you've seen my other posts, but I'm currently living in Vero Beach (since June 2) and mentioned that the beaches here are nicer....and they're free!

You're lucky... I loved Vero Beach.... One of my favorite 3 I lived in... WAAAAYYYY nicer beaches in Vero. Ya paying to go to the beach, that is a ripoff. What I hate in Cpae Coral is paying to go home every night. You don't see them charging $2 to go across the causeways in Melbourne, Vero, etc.....

I like the beaches and the water better on the east coast, too.
Naples is full of people with new money. They weren't necessarily brought up rich, so they think that acting rudely is how a rich person is suppose to act. It's full of posers. I use to wonder if some of them still had their velvet Elvis.
