Default Opinion...

Hello everyone

I have accepted a teaching job in Collier County at Parkside Elementary. I have heard lots of not so nice things about Parkside. Nevertheless, I hope to like the job

I am in search some great places to live in a good high school area. Any input would be great.

Thanks

This is a tough one. There are many nice places near that school but they are zoned for Lely high which does not have a good reputation.

I would look at in the Gulf Coast zone, which is mostly North Naples or Palmetto Ridge, which is mostly Golden Gate Estates. Both will be terrible commutes for you, especially in the winter.

There are plenty of decent places to live in Naples. There are a few bad pockets (Naples Manor is one of them) and they are easy to avoid.

Good luck on your new job. What will you be doing at Parkside?

Welcome. I am a ESE Assistant in the district. We used to live in South Naples. Parkside is a fairly new school (3 years). It was opened, I believe, to eliminate the overcrowding at Lely and Manatee. I believe it is a Title 1 school, so the population is mostly minority and needy. You can go on the school's website to see the student demographics.

Where to live? Go north, or at least central. Basically, you will be going in the opposite direction of traffic to go to work. I would recommend Barron Collier as a HS. I worked there last year. There is school choice and school staff are given preference. I worked with many teachers whose children went to the same school (elementary) where their parents worked.

Good luck.

In Newsweek's Top Public High Schools, Barron Collier is 417, Gulf Coast is 1302.
