Is Rte 4 as bad as so many say it is?
Is it really any worse than 75 past the Tampa Bay area?

I think you mean 70 East, which is what I take.

I have a dad in Melbourne, and found that it to be the fastest route.

It's 60 for sure i used to go when I lived in Vero Beach, it ends up going through Okeechobee center, right to Pit Pierce. 70 is right north of 60. I have gone that way too.

I-4 is a nightmare to drive on at certain times. Not all of 4 is bad but a good part of it it. I use 27 south and get off of 4 as soon as I can. When I go to Orlando I use 80 East, to 29, to 27 north to 192.

70 goes dead through Okeechobee. I don't see a Route 60.

SR 60 is a nice quiet route also, it takes you off I 75 just at the mid part of Tampa, before you get to the I 4 exit. Always seem to see alot of old classic cars and trucks when I go that route. Especially around the town of Mulberry.
I grew up in Brandon...right on 60. My dad was a cop and used to say that the blue bubble on the car just gave them something to aim for (when driving on 60)! I haven't been on it in at least 10 years but if it's anything like what it was before, the only good time to drive it is late late at night or very early in the a.m. Just want to let folks know so they don't get bogged down in the horrible traffic and blame us! It's a shame, there used to be some really pretty countryside there and once you get out of Brandon, the drive was pretty easy.

There's a good thread somewhere here about Waldo and Lawtey. Our last trip through was quite an experience for Hubby. I warned him about the speed enforcement. I rode shotgun and kept reading out all the speed limit signs, reading out "55...down to 45....back to 55....back down to 35"...by the time we got free of the area, we were a wreck. It's pretty up there too but it's not worth the risk. AAA has been routing travelers around the area for decades. Waldo's economy is evidently being severely damaged by these tricks too.

I'll check out that 70 route, sounds good.

Yep. Those speed traps are legendary. If they said they stopped them, no one would believe them!
