You know, the heat hasn't bothered me in the least... moved down here a year ago from the mountains of WV. We got snow 5-6 months out of the year up there.... still haven't thawed out!

I know this is the Ft. Myers forum, but the topic of getting to/from Rt. 95 is something I have also studied.

I need to get from the Leesburg area to Rt. 95. I have studied a few different ways, and have taken some of them. I'm concerned about what you all say about I-4.

I'm thinking of taking 95 south to I-4, then getting off of I-4 about 30 miles later, onto exit 101C, getting on State road 46 towards Mt. Dora. Is this 30 mile stretch of I-4 that bad? Coming down I'd be taking it in the wee hours of the morning.

It's been a while since I've been on it, so don't hold me to it but I think most are talking about the stretch from Tampa to Orlando on I-4 as being bad. Seemed like, for years there, there was constantly some kind of horrible construction going on.

I 4 is just plain bad, coming from either direction, it's the most traveled route into, and out of Orlando.

Last time I traveled it was mid June, in the middle of the night, it wasnt too bad. But there were some patches of construction still. The people that drive on it are absolute animals(not a personal attack, just an observation)where their driving is concerned.

Yes, you're right. I live in Vero Beach. Depends where you're coming from, however. Hiknapster's route is quicker if you're driving from Naples or Fort Myers. Actually, even if you live in Charlotte County you can take route 17 from Port Charlotte to Arcadia and then take 70 across the state.

I took 60 from Tampa last time I drove here. There was no traffic on the road at all except a few trucks. It was in the middle of the night, however!

I think there are some animals that would resent the comparison to the drivers up there. My last trip out of Tampa, I was getting passed like I was standing still. I looked down at my speed-I was doing 90!!! It took me at least three years to shake that manic driving style I had picked up in Tampa.

Oh, that's where it comes from. Now I understand.
