And if they break, you can look me up to have them fixed once I get down there. Sometimes you are better with the older appliances as "they don't make things like they used to". A lot of the newer appliances are junk. I have an old Maytag washer and dryer that I will be bringing with me and I will keep them till they rust out and fall apart!

You are instigating on purpose as you usually do. You can go on & on. I really don't care.
Residents of that area are well aware that is not a safe area. At all.

I see where you're both coming from, although I have to side with those who say $50,000 won't get you a nice single family home in a good neighborhood.
By the way, although this was on the east coast, I want to tell you guys this story, since it relates to the subject. An agent in Melbourne I once contacted encouraged me to look at a small home listed for $69,000 which "is in a resort like setting." It wouldn't have mattered to me if this were an RV or a 3 bedroom pool home. The house was not only right next to I-95, but it was practically in the breakdown lane. I am not exaggerating. No trees...just a view through a wire fence of 18 wheelers driving by your home. Just what I need - to live in a toll booth. If I hadn't driven over 50 miles, it would have been funny. What kind of "resort like setting" was she talking about? A truck stop?
As I said before, the one I mentioned in my earlier post was a short sale. I decided to look it up. I didn't post it before, because I was afraid of breaking the rules, but here it is.
3330 ASH ST, PUNTA GORDA, FL 33950
You can see it's very small, even smaller than many 2 bedroom condos, but it's cute (from the pics.) It was only a whim. I'm not sure where I'll be in a few years, so I was thinking it might be a good place to park my behind as an alternative to a condo. At that price, I wouldn't worry about losing too much and could always rent it out. However, a broker can list a home for any price, but it doesn't mean the bank will accept it. There was a home this size on my street in my neighborhood in Bonita listed for around $200K before they took it off the market, which is another reason it caught my eye, but that was near beach property. Some people still can't accept the fact that it's no longer 2005.

Well, Thanks 121804, Thats about as close to a I'm wrong again, your right admition as I'm going get from you
This house as well as many others are UNDER $50k!! Your not going to find some dream home in a gated community or on Cousley Dr. or Colonial St. in Port Charlotte or in PGI...It's UNDER $50k!!!! I used Tommy-105's crime map and found the area to be almost free of crime, besides, Punta Gorda is building an elementary school across the street... I really doubt they would do that in a bad neighborhood
Again like I said, It would be a fine starter home for some young couple or a retired couple wanting to downsize and get away from the aweful northern winters but not spend much of your nestegg. It's a nicer place then Mrs. Cool and I lived in when we first got married, I'm sure many people can say that. Would I live there now? no, but I can afford nicer, now, but not when I was young.
If many people that are being forclosed on now, like the Tommy's are (they keep pointing out that fact here on CD) If they would have bought a small cheaper home like this and did a bit of remodeling, they would have a nice clean home and a managable mortgage and be happy in SWF. Folks, IT'S UNDER $50K!! That same house in Madison Wi. is triple that price, at least! and the taxes would also be tripled, and don't get me started as to what it would cost for heating oil over the winter!

Hysterical! Don't you think kids that live in bad areas need schools too?

That post by that poster is only to instigate, Bakinmama. There is no merit to it nor the poster. Best to ignore.
When someone makes a joke about a person having sex with a baby, as he did, ...that speaks volumes about character.
It's not a good area. I lived in PG (something the instigator never has done) & know it well. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone. Everyone thinks the area is all postcard perfect b/c of 3 historical streets in PG. Not the case. It has its tough areas just like anywhere else.
This is also the same general area where the guy kept a dead roommate in the closet for a few weeks and used his credit cards...

Jokes about sex with a baby? That's awful.
