Default This years Property Tax in Punta Gorda

I recieved my tax bill for my 2 lots in Punta Gorda, and I was really floored when I saw they were taxing me $235.46 for a scrubjay lot and $309.60 for a non scrubjay lot. Only one lot sold in that (Ridge Harbor) area within a year for around $4000. Does anyone else who has lots in this area feel the same way I do? If they tax this year triple the amount it should be, What will they do next year? (if they can get by with it)

As a former lot owner, I can say " SELL". I bought lots for 3 grand or less and was paying like 60.00 in taxes a handful of years ago, I think this cycle will repeat

I guess that one redeeming side of owning real estate is that I would rather control it than an overpaid CEO. Whats the better option? -owning real estate or a cash derivative hedge fund? At least I can protest at the tax collector office. lol

Property taxes in Florida are about 1.25% of market value. Some qualify for a homestead exemption which will help. Value is set by actual sales of similar properties within the tax year.
You can check actual taxes yourself. IT"S EASY. Simply write down the address of a similar property. Google the County Tax Collector web site, type in the address and see what the actual taxes are. Moderator cut: no advertising

Buy gold and hold. Sell the real estate if you can and get the bullion. If you cannot sell then file a VAB petition.
