After reading some of these surveys happiest places in america or most miserable cities in america and seeing what they use for criteria. For example one of the studies used whether you smoked as a determing factor, or physical health.

I consider myself a happy person at times, but I find my level of happiness different at different times.

When I mow my lawn. I like to take time after to sit at the end of the yard admire my labor and smell of fresh cut grass. Or watching my kids achieve something such as last night I was playing catch with a football with my 6 year old and he made his first jumping fingertip catch and we celebrated as if he just scored the winning touchdown at the superbowl.

What are some of the things that make the rest of you happy that can't be measured in a survey

Methinks you left the door wide open on this one Kev................

For me, it's bashing Cape Coral on the C-D forums............(Not really, but I couldnt resist what everyone is certain to expect of me)

Actually I think you nailed it pretty close to home for me as well. A smile on the face of those close to you, and satisfaction with a job well done.

Oh, and the sound and smell of my Diesel in the morning, to drown out the sound of all those annoying birds.

YC.......

Wow - Thanks very much. Your post is like a breath of fresh air. What makes me happy:

* A cup of coffee early on the patio with my wife, watching CNN & catching up on email
* An early morning walk on Ft Myers Beach or Sanibel
* Spending time with my kids & grand kids - doesn't matter what we're doing
* Getting together with friends
* Messing about the house - fixing stuff, working on landscaping, everyday stuff

Life is good.

First, to have a relationship with God and work towards eternal happiness.
Second, to be pain free; without your health you have nothing.
Third, spending time with your loved ones and to see them being happy.
Fourth, to be able to work when you want at what you want.
Fifth, to be able to live where you want.
Sixth, being on your boat on a beautiful day and maybe catching dinner.

We decide to be happy, irrespective of externals, though few of us realize it. What happens outside does not dictate our reactions, we do.
