Hi,

My husband and I with our two children would like to move to Southwest Florida but we have three dogs (two large - a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever) and wonder if the communities in Estero are dog friendly. There are conflicting reviews on the schools there too. We appreciate any feedback as we would like to make the best choice possible. Thanks for your time.

Read this thread about Lee County schools: The cost of school choice

There are many threads on here about Lee County schools.

I can't help on the dog issue.

Estero is a very nice place. There are no bad areas.

As RMD3819 pointed out, there are many threads on this subject if you search for them. However, the big question is why are you moving here? Do you have a source of income? Why did you choose Estero?

Regarding the dogs, it depends on the community you select. The city* itself certainly isn't dog unfriendly. Many gated/planned communities have pet restrictions. You'd have to check with each community. Three Oaks (which is in So Ft Myers) is just north of Estero and is a nice community that is pet friendly if you're not looking for a gated community.

*Estero is actually not a city, but it's easier than saying "unincorporated, census designated area of South Lee County"

any property tax advantage to crossing the border from Fort Myers, or are the mill rates at the county level?

All of Lee county is in one school district with choice -- I prefer Cape Coral to Estero, better services, each lot is a quarter acre - kid and dog friendly. If you have the cash to swing it the housing market is great. Today I saw a 3/2 on the canal with a dock for under $90M
