Americans NEED their oil if they want to drive, keep warm, use electricity, etc. There are plenty of mistakes Bush made in his 8 years. My question was: did Obama do anything to make the offshore oil drilling operations safer before endorsing its massive expansion?
I have been thinking the same thing. This happened on the watch of the current administration. I would not normally put emphasis on that but with so many people blaming the Bush administration for every current shortcoming of the Fed, I find it ironic. I personally am not fond of Bush or Obama. I did like the "change" ideas presented during Obama's campaign promising energy independence, infrastructure rebuilding and jobs. Guess that disappeared once Obama took office and focused on the healthcare and corporate take overs. Blue Cross immediately increased my insurance premium by 25% at word of the bill passing. Not only have my premiums gone up but now I will be unconstitutionally required to maintain it. Thanks Obama. Guess a tax increase is next. The significant increase in jobs is IRS agents! Wow, it is getting so bad I have gone from being pi55ed to being humored. You would think that with the enviromentalist stereotype of lefties that the first order of the to do list would be safety inspections of oil wells and tankers.
On a positive note, BP and their subcontractors are hiring. I would assume that everyone who needs a job has applied. I would also assume that everyone complaining who has a job but lives near the disaster has volunteered to help....yeah right. Last I heard, BP has already spent near 1/2 billion on the disaster and the final bill is going to be a lot bigger. If that cost trickles down to us at the gas pump, I am sure the complaints will shift from the oil in the ocean to the cost of the oil in the car! What has happened is shameful and sad. I don't know what the cost of maintaining the safety equiptment is and inspecting it but I would imagine it is comparable if not a lot less than the spill. Regardless, I would be happy to pay more at the pump for peace of mind that the fisherman in the Gulf will still have jobs, the wildlife and beaches will not be harmed and the natural reefs in the Keys will survive. I hope that BP has learned a lesson the hard way but if the spill cost are simply passed down...then maybe not.

here's an opportunity for someone instead of debating each other, a set of ears that words hopefully don't get lost on.. I nominate yachtcare to go to represent city data.
I'm an Obama supporter (ocuh!), but I am at my wits end to understand what is the reasoning behind this almost ZERO response from the US government. (Yes I know there are military there, but..)
Lets say a US based oil company had this accident off the coast of the British Isles (lets just imagine they had oil there) or almost any other nation.
Imagine this kind of environmental and economical disaster being caused by a US based company on almost any other nation.
This would be front and center until its resolved, quickly.
Its almost as if the administration is simply allowing BP to take its time to ensure that the fix incorporated the ability for them to keep mining the crude.
I know this may be extreme, but how bout just nuking the hole?
There can be conrolled explosion where they have a robot penetrate the sea floor, plant an explosive and nuke the dam hole, hopefully plugging it shut.
The ensuing fire, hopefully would burn off most of the oil..
I dunno, but just watching this disaster unfold and not noticing any national action has seriously depleted my hopes in this administration and in the passion of the American people.

Actually that link works well if you eliminate one of the "http" lines at the beginning.
Not sure what it has to do with oil in the gulf, but I may look into it.
Personally, I would recommend Yoko for the job. I'm busy implementing an escape plan, and prefer to maintain a low profile at the moment. I've learned the hard way that asking too many questions, or fielding a complaint in Cape Coral only invites the wrath and increased scrutiny of the local gestapo.

You will get your wish soon. All energy usage will be taxed with Obama's Cap and Trade bill. And the taxes that will be imposed on business for energy usage will be passed on to us. Maybe that's why the left is almost gleeful when they hear bad news regarding the spill.

Why do so many assume that those who/are military turn a blindeye to anything that concerns them about the government and the way that it is run? We take an oath to obey the commands of the Commander-in-Chief...so many hoping that those orders are lawful, ethical and moral (hahahahaha).
I'd also like to know why there has been no response from any other country? If this happened in another country, Obama would have had his press conference donating billions & we'd be sending in every available resource. Not only has our government dropped the ball (must be a LA thing...are we so quickly forgetting about Katrina & the governments lack of response??????)
Can't nuke it.
Hasn't effected the American people. Not much does unless it revolves around Tiger Woods cheating on his wife or John Travolta's dogs getting killed. This is what makes headline news in my city
We have so much and are held mildly accountable for much. People will pay lots of money to fill up there gas tanks as busses go by empty. People have to heat their homes in the winter and are forced into gas if that is how their home is heated.

Are you military? I always thought they take an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States.
If they are taking an oath to obey the commander in chief, we're in bigger trouble than even I thought........
I guess everyone missed it but pages back I said that where they drilled is NOT international waters. It is in our territory and not all that far from Louisiana. What? Somewhere between 21 and 40 miles off the coast.
And kroeran mentioned nuking it.
That's part of the problem, I think. The Russians keep telling us to nuke it, too. I guess it has worked 5 out of 6 times for them. Obama would love to see BP handle it. He wants them to pay and be responsible if anything else happens because CERTAIN people damn him if he does and damn him if he doesn't. If he nukes and something goes wrong, well, there is a certain group of people that will NEVER shut up about it. NEVER. If he spends money on the clean up well, that same crew will scream he is stealing their money. AGAIN.
Didn't any of you read the crazed post that blames Obama for absolutely EVERYTHING? Well, I got news for that guy. Bush was the first one to send money to the auto industry. Bush was the first one to bail out the banks. Not that there was anything wrong with that. He was doing what he could to stop the mess, too. But some of you people that point the finger and accuse us of drinking the Kool-Aid (and yes, it is spelled that way) need to actually understand what happened. Pay attention.
I swear there should be some sort of an exam required before you can vote.
Oh, and I knew about Tiger. Couldn't miss that one. But I didn't know about Travolta's dogs. And I don't care.
I'm busy reading and COMPREHENDING US and international news.

YC.......
As does the President
My dh & I were both officers. Yes, officers are to obey the orders given to us by the Commander in Chief. Officers are required to pass those orders down to enlisted. And hopefully those orders are constitutional. I cannot express how much it does effect the military members when they feel what they are doing is in vain and that have been lied to yet have no recourse other than to follow orders. Getting court martialed is not a joke. Signing that dotted line to join the military gets a lot of people in trouble....
What the CoC says the military has to do. Now, obviously, it is not THAT cut & dry....many are involved in making decisions prior to the CoC's final word. THOSE are the people you should be worried about...not the CoC!
I have respect for the government and constitution...I don't think most realize what would happen if we DID NOT have the constitution and just how great it is to have freedom of speech alone...BUT, I never as an officer did the "Yes, Sir!" if I felt it put my soldiers in jeopardy due to the order being unethical, unmoral, or unconstitutional. Luckily, I did not have to go to Iraq for I tell my dh I would be at Fort Leavenworth right now. I took heat for many things I said to my commanding officer for my soldiers & would do it all over again.

No, you have to care about the dogs! You have to! And it is made even easier for you know as MSN & CNN do "Your World in 2 minutes" news reports!!!
I feel the damned if you do, damned if you don't has been following Obama since Day 1.
It's a freaking huge mess. The pictures of the estuaries are heartbreaking.
I don't even know where to get unbiased news anymore.
