This article is linked to the "scare" article posted above.

Although I agree that reporters enjoy a juicy story and that a disaster, natural or manmade, gets a lot of coverage, I wouldn't exactly call the article about Florida a "scare" article. Everything in it is true. People come to Florida for many reasons, but a major attraction is the weather along with our white sandy beaches, fishing & boating.

Really? So I must have been dreaming when I saw Obama approving the expansion of offshore drilling?

Regarding the media taking "advantage" or "promoting" an administration's programs, I guess you don't remember the reporters who admitted to taking money to promote some of George Bush's programs. One reporter, Armstrong Williams, received $240,000 from the Department of Education in exchange for promoting No Child Left Behind, which was the flagship of President Bush's education plan. Since this thread is about the oil spill and how it is affecting us, I won't elaborate on the Iraq war and how the media promoted it.

This is part of a strategy to get "Cap and Trade" legislation to pass. He will do anything to raise taxes and give the government more control over our lives.

This was not exactly a conservative plan. The legislation was co-written by Ted Kennedy. Yes the media would promote any Kennedy program.

The media only promoted the Iraq war in the very beginning when it had the support of most democrats.

The media never talks about how much oil has been recovered, only about how much is leaking. About 3.5 million gallons of oil have leaked and about 3.5 million gallons of oil and seawater mix have been recovered. So maybe close to half has been recovered, burned or dispersed.
I'm not saying we don't have a disaster, but I don't trust the media for accurate info.

Exactly! The main stream media these days will only tell the half of the story that is the most sensational, and fits the agenda. Most of us are too busy with our lives on a day to day basis, so we never investigate the other half....even though the information is out there, we only take what is given easily in small sound bites at the appointed time daily. Just another way our opinions and thoughts are moulded and shaped by mass media. A quick read thru this thread shows how effective it is at polarizing opinions and dividing "we the people".

Today's media is useful for one thing only...........it calls attention to the issues that we all should be investigating more closely. Because if they're telling you "this", you can be assured that there is a "that" they are neglecting to tell you about.

"The future is managed, and your freedom's a joke
You dont know the difference, as you put on the yoke
The less that you know, the more you fall into place
The world is corrupted, there is no soul in your face"
excerpt "Sparks of the Tempest"
Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh 1977

Let's hope the "top hat" works out better than it's big brother did over the weekend. Once the tap can be turned off, the cleanup can become the main focus.

YC.......

Another great post by Yachtcare! The point is, to be informed by the mass media you need to watch The CBS Evening News or ABC news and then tune into Fox News to get the other side, then make up your own mind based on what makes the most sense, you will find the truth lies some where in the middle!

BTW.... Mrs. T, By you not comparing "apples to apples" with Gallons to barrels, only proves that your trying to post misleading information to fit your agenda!
Why should posters have to "Do the math" when you could have posted honest statistics in the first place!

I didn't realize this was a political forum. Last time I wrote something positive about the Obama Administration, my post was removed. Anyway, in answer to this statement..

Absurd statement and also not true.

I suppose if you and your children were victims of chemical waste dumping, you'd be more interested in knowing how they're going to clean up the toxic waste than its effects on your family? "Mrs. Smith, I realize that your son has a brain tumor and your daughter died from leukemia recently, but there's a positive side to all of this. We're going to clean up all the crap we poured into your backyard!"

How long has BP been in business? Why don't they have measures to prevent and stop leaks before millions of gallons are spilled into the ocean? Why did an explosion kill 11 people after they plugged the walls with cement, a process regulators have previously identified as a leading cause of well blowouts?

Defending the big oil companies that care more about production than the safety of its workers is almost as silly as protesting in favor of larger profits for insurance companies while people are dying of cancer.

OK, why don't you tell me what my "agenda" is now? In the past, you've said I hate it here, that I'm anti-Florida. Now my "agenda" is to protect Florida and it's ecosystem from destruction by Big Oil?

Florida State Rep. Keith Fitzgerald is starting a movement to enact a constitutional amendment to ban drilling in Florida's waters. Those of us who actually DO live here will soon be able to vote on the issue and make our wishes known.

The socialist State

The current oil spill is not located in Florida waters. The legislation you favor will give us little protection from future oil spills in the gulf.

What does any of this have to do with a main stream media that takes its daily stories directly from the Obama administration. It may as well be the Tass news agency.
