Basically, the growth brought lots of workers, but not necessarily college degrees.

I love how sentences from an article can be cherry picked! Also from the article:
"Even after Cape Coral's growth leveled off in recent years, Frey predicted that Cape Coral would be one of the top 10 biggest growers in the country"

"We're breaking all records," Cull said.

The center provides food, utility payments when loss of service is imminent and helps with medicine prescription costs for children. "

But churches, clubs and organizations in Cape Coral come forward to help meet the need, Cull said. "

"Normally during high season, for Sunsplash we get a lot of minors that apply. But over the last two seasons, we've had more adults," said Hill.

And those adults, who are highly qualified, say they are willing to take entry level positions just so they can get back to work."

In Lee County 6.8 % live below poverty line!

North Fort Myers: No boom, no bust | news-press.com | The News-Press

Lee County residents came through again for the needy, donating a record 445,500 pounds of food Saturday during the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.

The bulk of the food collected from Fort Myers and Cape Coral goes to Wake Up America and the Harry Chapin Food Bank, which serves 90 Lee County agencies.

Although Riko is correct, according to the USDA, I'm not sure where the other figures come from, since the poverty rate as of 2008 in Florida was over 13% and is over 22% in some areas like Hendry, Lee County was 10.6%.

Perhaps the key words are below poverty level.

Here is the poverty level map from ERS/USDA

I don't get it. We have some counties in Florida where close to 30% of the residents are living in poverty and we spend our taxes rebuilding other countries. But I guess that's a whole different subject, isn't it?
