Odd, seems to me that there has been more sheriffs officers as of late out here.

Now I have been to every major news publication website for Lee County, and see NOTHING about what you just claimed. Perhaps you could provide some insight? Nothing on abc-7, fox4, winktv, nbc-2, news-press. At least not that I can find.

Facts about LA, from someone who spent 4 years from age 16-20 in Lehigh, almost every day, and almost every weekend, tooling around in a 4wd. And who has lived there from age 20 to current.

South of Lee blvd is getting worse, the hoodlums and scum that currently occupy between leonard, 82 and colonial are moving east to between gunnery and sunshine south of lee. I just moved from there, to the other side of Lee. Much nicer, quieter, higher quality of people.

33973 includes Westminster, nice place, gated, safer than average. All these detractors who have never lived here, or don't know near as much as they think they do, would be in for a surprise if they had a tour of LA.

Check out this crime map. Shows most of the crime occurring on the Ft. Myers side of Lehigh, near 82.

I would never, ever, ever, ever, may I say it again, ever, live in Lehigh. I'd live in a box under the bridge before I EVER moved my family to that hell hole.

Yes, these ppl left because of the crime. Two famlies were deputies the and they said it was getting to the point they didn't feel it was safe enough for their families.

I guess you don't read the New Press nor talk to your neighbors ( who actually give you more info that the newspaper). Lehigh is the pit of Lee County. A man kills his wife and drags her dead body with his car...great neighbor to have. A baby daddy stabs the mom and baby and they are both in the hospital as I type. Not to mention, the break ins, the grow houses, the punks roaming the streets. Yeah....great place to live. NOT

Right you are, now Cash Feenz? That ring a bell? There are more grow houses in Bonita than lehigh, without a doubt. I'll say it again, no town is perfect, and if you think you're safe, you're not. Everyone should always be vigilant, everywhere, all the time. Criminals look for victims, don't let yourself be one. Don't throw your new big screen tv box out by the curb, tear the box up and recycle it.

My neighbors at my old house in Lehigh WERE deputies. You and Chris deserve each other. Posting half truths about news reports.

Perhaps if you read the story, it was the girls father, and grandfather of the baby, not a baby daddy, not that that makes a bit of difference where it occurred. What would you say if the offender lived in Cape Coral? or Ft. Myers. Just because he attacked someone in Lehigh, that means Lehigh is full of criminals? Check the arrest logs, most of these criminals have last known addresses in Ft Myers or the Cape.

Again, move to the right part of Lehigh, and you don't have near those worries.

We live in 33972 closer to Palm beach Blvd and Joel (so basically NE). It's basically safe. Housing values are way down and there are lots of renters living in homes that investors bought when the future looked bright. That is where you run into some of the transient folks and petty thefts (a/c robberies in vacant homes). I agree that the NE part is better than the south in the sense that it is quieter. It's not for me, but if you like the type of outdoor activities that are popular here (ie riding on ATVs, fishing in the various canals or hunting) then you may really enjoy it. My primary complaint is that other than Wal-mart and a couple of grocery stores you have to go to Ft Myers for most things. There is a hospital and drs and dentists but I've never been to any of them except my eye doctor of Lee who is great actually. Oops tangent. Anyway right now is a good time because a newer house can be had for very little (60k or sometimes less) but just make sure you drive around a lot. Sometimes there will be a nice house sitting next to a dump with a bunch of cars parked on the lawn or something. Good luck with your search.

And again, you still have it wrong. Fort Myers police handle issues in the city limits. Not lehigh.

Folks, discuss the topic, NOT the poster. Further attacks, negitive comments about others here will be dealt with by issuing infractions and "time outs".

I understand that everyone has different opinions, and no one likes to have their hometown put down. If you are going to post an opinion, please back it up with facts, and state how you came to that opinion.

Opinions born out of first hand factual experience hold more credibility.

Before posting, ask yourself, is it kind? Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it against the TOS here?

Frank

I'm seeing the area south of Lee and west of Sunshine. Right where I live. As stated earlier, I have lived here since '02 and never really had an issue beyond the dogs that surround me. I know people that are in all areas of Lehigh. No one I know has actually been robbed. That's not to say I don't think it happens. It does, usually violently when it does. It really doesn't matter where you live, you need to be aware of your surroundings, pay attention to strange cars on your street, don't leave your garage door wide open showing the easiest way in to your house. It is probably a good thing that these houses aren't built with the breeze in mind, so not many leave them opened and vulnerable any more, we use our A/C and stay locked up. Summer is coming, the economy and rate of unemployment isn't much better than it was back in '07 when the worst of the economic crash hit Lehigh. People get bored, uncomfortable because of the heat, irritable, and tired of trying to make it. Crime increases. It's just a fact of life. Has been since the beginning of time. We just see it more now because there are more people -- thereby giving more opportunity for crime. I also think the media is much more prolific and in your face now than it was 30 years ago.

Well, sensationalizing things gets the ratings you know.... It's all about the ratings, so hype it up and just like when a hurricane is brewing, hype, and scare tactics...
