I think I didn't explain my self correctly before, my boyfriend is building a senior community in Fort Myers.
So we are off next June weather I like it or not
I hope its not as bad or boring as I'm starting to think it is.

Really it is not that boring. Its not L.A. or New York but there about 15 clubs/entertainment venues around (there are probably more that I just don't know about). An arena for hockey, arena football, and concerts. Our local hockey team is one of the best teams in the ECHL and the games are very fun to go. I've noticed that most people that complain about SW FL haven't really gotten out and experienced all it has to offer. If you look for it, you will find it.

i tis o great to hear some one say somthing nice regarding FLorida, i live in Orlando but do not like it as it seems the crime rate is high and the beach is a little far for my liking, I lived in ft lauderdale for 13 years and have just been offered a great position with my company in Ft Myers, what do you think of this for a 29 year old, plus my accomidations will be taken care of.
Thank you!

Like the OP states, money is NOT an issue.
OP, congrats on your move and your property, go for it !!! We are pulling for ya.
Then again, I could not count the amount of people I know that moved to Florida in a junk car and 200.00 in their pocket and have done EXTREMELY well for themselves.
Case in point, young mom of two boys from tiny town of Jackson Ohio moved to Mt Dora 6 months ago with a junk car, 500.00 cash and no alimony or support, she told me when we were down there for our 12 day stroll around Florida looking for a place to move that she is in PARADISE, she told me she wish she would have done this years before this, he saying is " Look at what I have I been missing all my life."
We met her eating breakfast at a McDonalds when one of her kids starting talking to my daughter, she ask if we were from out of town and began talking, found out she was from Jackson Ohio.
She was full of info and told us that she yet is to see all the bad everyone warns her about. She told us she can make all the money she wants and needs and her kids did well in school this year, better then in Ohio she stated.
We talked to many people while down there, as many as we could find and found only one single person who said they were struggling, and she said the reason was she was picky about the jobs she wanted to do. All others were more then happy living there and 90% of them were from cold states.
As I post all the time, we all have choices, if you do not like were you live, move................................

yikes what's up with all the negativity? there are going to be good and bad aspects in any place you choose to live, it's all about what you make of it. i know, so cliche right? well i've never been to this website before, but i am a 22 year old recent college graduate moving from western pennsylvania to fort myers florida pretty soon here. so if anybody has anything positive or uplifitng to say about the area, it would be greatly appreciated. i mean, so far you guys have been scaring me...but don't worry nothing can break my spirits

Yikes, I am going to rethink this then. I have a job interview for a nurse position in Fort Myers. I was wondering a reasonable place to rent, low crime, good schools, but I am not seeing much good about the area. Sad.

The unfortunate thing about a gorgeous area is once it's been discovered, the population and the cost of living both sky-rocket. That's exactly what happened in SW FL.
As long as you have tons of money and enjoy heat and humidity and can tolerate biting bugs you'll love living there. The beaches are gorgeous - I"ll be the first to give them that. As long as there's a company hired to keep them clean as most tourists think nothing of tossing soda bottles and food wrappers all over the place. There are very upscale shops all over - a friend of mine is in the process of opening an upscale store in Waterside in N Naples. As long as you don't mind spending $50 a person on a dinner out, you'll enjoy it. The food is very good, but I refuse to spend that kind of money on a meal - just me. I also refuse to spend $20 on a single pair of socks. I just don't get that type of life-style. I know tons of people aspire to being that type of person, that they can drop tons of money on frivolous things, but I just can't justify it in my mind when there are so very many people struggling just to put a decent meal on the table or Wal Mart clothes on their kids backs. I'd rather buy a good meal and put the extra money into some kind of investment.
But like all other things in life, there are people that enjoy that sort of thing. They will all congregate in places like this. That's fine. I enjoy my middle-of-nowhere room-to-move farm town life. To me, that's what heaven is.
So, if you enjoy the over-spending lifestyle and have plenty money to throw around, go for it. Enjoy.

Mrs1885: I think you're describing Naples? Fort Myers Beach is not gorgeous and there are no upscale shops.
