I despise NLCB/HQT.
As it is written right now, so do I. The good thing about the theory behind it is that there will be accountability to make sure that the teachers know how to teach.

You'd be surprised who can't teach, even to the test. I guess that's why Florida is trying to go to a merit based pay

Maybe, to an extent. But HQT can also hinder some excellent teachers who just do have not put in enough time or finished enough CE hours. Some states are brutal w/ the hiring practices b/c of the funding they get when they hire so many HQT teachers.

I did all the right things; got all the right degrees to teach...but I always say those I learned the most from where the 11/12 yr olds I taught, not from the book I read through in grad school....

It's a highly flawed system & I refuse (unless financially necessary) to teach in the public school system where I am forced to teach the test & have absolutely no freedom in lesson planning as someone in DC (w/o any teaching experience) from 2003 has decided that already for me.

Back to the original OP....
