Your son may also be able to take classes at Indiana Purdue - Fort Wayne Indiana University as a high school student. I know it's common for the college bound students in Bloomington to do that.

You might try searching for an international cost of living calculator to get more information on the rest.

Well from family that goes to Homestead I hear that they've started seeing a lot more low income families moving out Southwest. I hate to say that it's a problem, but it will eventually become one. It's just going to continue the sprawl where the city spreads out and everyone leaves with it. Whitley County will probably be home to the new "Homestead type" school in the future. Also, Homestead wasn't rated a 4 star school this year like Carroll High School in NW Allen County.

The southwest portion of Fort Wayne is still home to the most expensive zip code in the state of Indiana.

Allen County zip richest in state

wow ... that's kind of a shocker ... Homestead was always the perennial go to 4 star high school!

And even though Carroll defeated our Columbus Ice Men for the the state hockey championship ... sigh ... hats off to Carroll!

I believe somehow this is skewed by not counting the low income apartment complexes. I admit I have no way to prove this, but I have a very very hard time believing that 46814 is wealthier than Carmel or Zionsville. Another problem with it is that SACS also contains zip codes other than 46814.

And just as evidence of the fact Homestead is no longer a 4 star school:

It isn't skewed, but it just so happens this way because of the way the boundaries are divided.

Like the video said, the northern suburbs of Carmel and Fishers, the wealth is more spread out whereas Allen County has them in basically one spot.

Housing prices in SW Fort Wayne have not come down to a level at which low income families can now afford to purchase a home within the district. What your are seeing is the result of Gary Probst building 2 section 8 apartment complexes, one located near the Bridgewater and Vera Cruz addition and another by Chestnut Hills. These apartments are income based and qualify as section 8 housing, meaning rent is subsidized. How these got approved is beyond me, as neither location offers public transportation or a safe walking route to basic amenities.

I understand this, but with low income complexes comes decreased property values in neighborhoods around them. It also suggests that there is more room for these complexes to be built in the future.
