My husband and I will be moving to Ft. Wayne next summer to be closer to my step-children. We started looking into the city a bit but we don't know much about it! My main concern is ending up in the decent parts of town. Anybody have any suggestions on which parts to avoid (because of crime and drugs) and which parts would still be affordable? Thanks in advance for the help! We're a bit lost about it!

When I was doing my search this past Spring, the information I received indicated I should try to stay in the North East, North West, and South West areas. I believe further that the western areas have the most potential for growth, and are experiencing a 'spurt' currently. The other area (only one is left...) was not looked upon favorably. I've moved into the NE and I LOVE IT. Others may differ in opinion, but the town is small enough to travel across in twenty minutes. Stake out some places, come for a visit (we did) and you shouldn't go wrong. The I'net provides a lot of fair information that can be easily verified on-site.

Aboite, on the southwest side, is the toniest area of Ft. Wayne. The northwest side is up and coming and is probably the second most desirable area. This includes Pine Valley and other subdivisions around Coldwater and Dupont Rds. Stay away from the southeast side of town. Lots of drugs and crime.

I've posted numerous times regarding Fort Wayne (you may want to search my previous posts). In this snapshot in time I don't think you can go wrong looking at the 46804 or 46814 zipcode areas of the SW side. This area is doing very well right now and indeed housing is affordable. If you move close to exit 105 of the Highway 69, you'll be able to quickly traverse anywhere within Fort Wayne.

If you want even cheaper...then look into Huntington. It's cheap as dirt to live there, and only a 20 min. drive to Fort Wayne.

Hi, I have lived in Fort Wayne before.. I think it is a very boring place to live it seems like all there is to do is go to Wal-Mart, & the schools are not very good. When I went on vacation my home was broken into..& I supposely lived on the "good" side of town.
