Hello

We are moving to Fort Wayne zip code 46804 in July '09. I have listed out below 4 Apt complexes in the area having 3 or 4 Bed room apartments in this zipcode:

Aston Pointe
Preston Pointe
Colony Bay
Time Corners Crossing

Is anybody familiar with these Apartments and the surrounding area? Could you tell if these are good apartments and if they & areas around are safe?

We plan to send kids (2) to Canterbury School which should be fairly near to these Apts. We want to rent for short term because we plan to buy house before the end of the year.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

I lived in a house off Getz Road and W Jefferson for 5 yrs, just up the hill from Time Corners Shopping Ctr and Canterbury School. The closest to the school would be Time Corners Crossing. All of them are in a good spot, some just a bit better. That section of town is a great place to live. Lots of shopping, restaurants, quick access to either Illinois Rd or W Jefferson exits on I-69. I would say take whichever looks the best and gives you the best deal for rent and welcome to Indiana!

I can give you a little input as we were new to the area in 06 and lived in an apartment for a year before deciding where to buy a house. All the apartments you listed are within a 5 mile radius of each other. All are close to shopping, restaurants, and schools. I believe all offer most of the same imenities such as laundry in your apartment, pools, and workout facilities. I know for sure that Preston Pointe's rent is income based and I don't think it would be my first choice. Colony Bay is located in and around a retirement community. I had to vote there once and their facilities seemed very nice. I had a friend who lived in Aston Place he seemed to like it but was on the 2nd floor and had to deal with both upstairs and downstairs neighbors. Times Corners Crossing I cannot place where those are but they look nice on the website. I do believe they are also income based.
Personally, we lived in Pointe Inverness Apartments. These are located right along with the others you've listed. We had 2 bedrooms which was tight for my husband, myself and two kids 9 & 6 but we knew it was temporary so we managed. They had two pools, a workout facility, volleyball courts and their office was also used as an area that can be rented for parties. They staff was friendly and the maitenance was always prompt if I had and issue. The only thing I wish they had that I know some of the others have was a playground. They do have a basketball net and cement pad, and with the two ponds, my kids were alway happy to go down and look for frogs.
I know it is hard to make a decision like this but I would highly suggest checking them out in person if at all possible. Some look very nice on the outside but you could be stuck with some very shady neighbors. With that being said, I would not consider any of them to be in a bad neighborhood. The SW section of FW is very nice.
Best wishes in your apartment search. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks a lot for the info. Regarding income related Apts is the issue that they have a lot of poor people or (and) is security an issue?
