We are soon moving to southwest Fort Wayne and I am looking for a preschool for my 3 year old son to start at in the fall. My husband is black and I am white so we would prefer a school that is diverse. My husband is concerned about our son being "the only black person in the room." Any suggestions where to start looking? Thanks for the help.

I'm half black and half white and grew up in Fort Wayne. I can't really speak for preschools on the Southwest side, but a lot of my cousins that live in Fort Wayne have sent their kids to First Presbyterian preschool, but it's downtown. It is where I went and prepares kids well.

This really shouldn't be a concern - although the percentage of black people in SW or NW Fort Wayne is admittedly small in the grand scheme of things, I've worked with many of the top daycare centers/preschool centers offering my business's service to them and there is diversity in each one. Chinese, Indian, Black/African-American, White, Latino, etc... I've seen children of all these ethnic makeups in each class. The SW preschool's with the best-looking curriculum's and faculty I enjoy interacting with the most include: Aldersgate and La Petite Academy. There are a lot of other choices available, but these two standout to me (and I've had children attend both).
