Back in my childhood we could still do fireworks in the city and don't remember when they began banning them. Fine with me as too many people jsut aren't careful with them. Besides the roofs fire in yards, fields and roofs, there are all the hand/finger/face injuries.
I'd much rather watch a nice professional display! haha
On another forum a similar topic was brought up regarding fireworks and there are 10 states that ban them completely....I had no idea.

Junkman, too cool!! I wish I had a stockpile like that! What makes me ill about these kinds of laws, is that law abiding citizens are the ones who pay and get there freedoms taken away, those who are going to use illegal fireworks are likely still going to do it, regardless of where they are.

On our drive out we stopped somewhere in New Mexico on I-40. We stopped to get my daughter an ice cream at the gas station. My husband came out and said...You have got to go in and check that out!
I walked in and there were aisles upon aisles of fireworks that I had only heard stories about from people bringing in from Mexico to CA. I always thought it was a pretty interesting combination.... ice cream/gas station and fireworks. Don't light a match!!

New Mexico is one state where fire works can be sold year round.

Fireworks Tradition
I used to live in a dry county in Florida - alchohol and fire works! So, it was a holiday ritual to get in the car with my family and drive to the Alabama state line to the huge fireworks tent, buy some "safer" fireworks, and trek back home for a week of mayhem and mischief.
Burnt fingers picking up the wrong end of a sparkler, singed eyebrows, stinging or numb fingers from a firecracker mis-fire, fires from roman candles - what memories! I just regret I can't share these pleasures with my small girls.
BTW - Granbury has a good fireworks show. But, if you are from metroplex - stay on that side of the lake. The traffic is a nightmare.!

We used to have "Safe and Sane" fireworks. They were basically large cones that lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. What I am talking about isn't anything that is about to take any fingers off. I guess it is just a judgment thing and something that I thought Texas was all about. That people are smart enough to know better...

When I was a kid here and they were still legal, I had a firecacker go off in my hand just as I was about to throw it (it was a regular 'Black Cat'). The fuse burned really fast on that one. The fingers I was holding it with hurt like heck for a while, but it didn't seriously injure me.
I think fireworks are illegal, not just for safety, but because they are loud and bother people. Being a night owl (look at the time!), I can understand that. Being awakened by a firecracker isn't very pleasing. But I love the big professional shows.

From my understanding, and I have been looking all over trying to confirm, (so if there is an article out there, please let me know) is that they are illegal in the city but not in the unincorporated portion of the city itself.
The reason I ask is that in the paper there are places all over that you can buy them.
