Another area worth looking into would be the Burton Hills Trinity Trails area, it's only a block from the Trinity river hiking trails and being an older neighborhood has lots of incredible trees....just south of this area are even larger, more upscale homes just down the road from Westover Hills area.

We're currently in the process of moving out of our home here in the BHTT area that we just sold in a matter of weeks. Work sort of forced us to relocate, actually gas prices had more to do with it...

This particular area of Fort Worth is scheduled to undergo some pretty major changes with the Trinity River project and the White Settlement Road corridor renovations in progress, this part of Fort Worth may end up being 'the' place to be in a few years.

Great thing is that it's almost walking distance to the Joint Reserve Base and very culturally diverse, no crime at all to speak of and an excellent school district.

We have a feeling we'll regret leaving this area.

How is the River Oaks area? I pass through it everyday when going from the gym to my house. It looks a bit run down (esp. Rt. 183), but it's got good location and a great view of FW from the Sansom Park by Robers Cut-Off Rd.

About the pickup truck comment that was mentioned on p. 1, 1 out of 7 p/u trucks sold in the US are sold in TX! But I also see a lot of economy cars here as well. The one good thing about high gas prices is that in theory, interest for getting those monster trucks should dwindle.

I wouldn't recommend River Oaks to anyone. I've never understood why Fort Worth didn't just incorporate them. Their backwards way of thinking in that city holds them back, it doesn't help like most of their older residents want to think.

Without allowing alcohol sales in your city, every decent restaurant is going to pass you by, the more business that pass you by the more you infrastructure dies. There's only so much of a tax base you can generate from having a church on every corner.
At some point someone needs to get a clue.

We're moving from Volder drive, there are some really nice (heavily treed) homes on Oak Forest and Santa Maria..some other streets are Odom, Durham and Santa Barbara. Some even back up to the Trinity River, it's very park like. Cool that you're still 5 minutes from Camp Bowie and the Hulen area, not to mention the mall.
Here's a map view.
Volder Dr, Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas 76114, United States - Google Maps

Thanks! And thanks again to everyone! FTW seems like it would be a good fit for us and definitely do-able. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions if/when the relo comes to fruition.

Smile Moving to DFW

Howdy! Okay, had to say it...LOL! I've lived in the DFW Metro my entire life and can tell you that everything you are looking for and then some is available here. You can drive in any direction for 10 minutes and everything changes including the weather!

You struck a chord with me on the AC issue. Yes, it will be 100 degrees outside and you walk in a restaraunt and freeze. I take sweaters with me everywhere I go--even in August.

Saginaw is an excellent area, good schools, near Eagle Mtn Lake and more. There are plenty of housing opportunities available and many builders are offering incentives to buyers to choose them. For $200k, you can hit the motherload in DFW as far as ammenities and options.

Bike trails and neighborhood pools/parks exist all over town as well. Getting out of town and into more tranquil settings of nature is possible as well. Pretty much, unless you are looking to fish for trout in a mountain stream or surf big waves, you can find it here in Texas.

I have a question--who else besides Billy Bob's has a mechanical bull? I know of Gilley's, but that's in Dallas.

We welcome fuel effeciency in DFW. The Oil and Gas "bidness" is back in business here in DFW but it is all good for those who exercise automotive options. Good for you!

No need to buy a cowboy hat before you get here, not everyone is donning them these days! You'll fit right in in our very friendly area of the country.

Thanks DFWHall! Lots of good info, and just more affirmation that I think FTW would be a good fit for us.

On the mechanical bull place - I'll have to get in touch with my friend/colleague and find out the name of the place. I googled Gilley's and I can't tell from the pictures on the site whether or not that was the place. I swear she said she was taking us to Fort Worth, though. Hmmm, now it is a big mystery! I'll find out.

Default Just moved to TX

We just moved from East Hartford, CT to Fort Worth, TX in Aug. We are leasing a house until we become familiar with the area. If you are willing to spend a little over $1,000, you can easily find a 3-4 Bedroom brand-new house for lease. GPS navigation system made our life so much easier. Their Point of Interest function also helped us to lean about the area quickly.

People here are very open and friendly. My husband is Puerto Rican and I'm Japanese. We never had any problems.
