Hi,

My family may be moving to the Fort Worth area this year. I have two kids, ages 5 and 7, so schools will be a major factor. I've been reading all the posts about Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville, Keller...and they all seem to all be great areas. Are there any other areas with good schools where I can get a newer home on at least an acre? My budget is 600-700k. Our business is home based so commuting traffic is not an issue. However, I'd like to be more than 30-40 minues from airport. Thanks!

you WANT to be more than 40 min away from DFW?
then you are looking at outer ring around Aledo to the west--Weatherford--
schools are not as good as DFW closer ISDs like Grapevine Colleyville or Lewisville or Carroll or Coppell
but they are not that bad

or you can check out Argyle-Bartlesville area north of DFW--maybe around Denton up to Sherman

IF you meant no MORE than 40 min from DFW--and you want newer home on acre you need to check around Justin/Rhome--maybe get into Northwest ISD
you won't find a newer home on acre in Southlake/Colleyville area under 700K I don't think
you might check out Lewisville ISD--Flower Mound area--since you are home-based and don't commute the difficulty of getting OUT of there might not matter that much

will PM a good RE site for checking homes in MLS

Flower Mound
Burleson
Mansfield

Those 3 towns should each meet you criteria.

You may find an acre lot in that price range in Grapevine or Southlake, but it's not very likely. Colleyville and Keller are a little more likely. That is going to be the most difficult criteria to meet.

Burleson and Mansfield are on the fringe of the metroplex and will likely be more than 30 minutes from DFW.

Good luck!

Burleson and Mansfield are each about a 20 min drive into Ft. Worth, which I believe is what the OP is asking about.

I'd check out Haslet...homes on an acre usually start around 200K and go up from there. There are some areas that are gated and allow horses as well

Argyle. Good schools and lots of acreage.

New home and an acre are going to be hard to find, unless you head out west like loves2 said.
Haslet and Aledo will have 1 acre + lots but they are more than 30minutes from the airport.

Also remember that an acre doesn't necesarily mean "privacy" like it does in the NE for example. We looked at acreage in Haslet and since it's the plains...(and old ranch land) not many trees etc... a bunch of big new homes in a field.
Aslo for 600-700k in Haslet/Justin you will have to be in one of the most expensive/exclusive neighborhoods. And I don't know how re-sale for that rnage is out there. Most start at 200k and up to 400k as the privious poster said.

if you went down to 1/2 acre or 3/4 acre you could find a nice place on a wooded lot in Southlake, Colleyville and in a community of homes from 400k to 1mil. also Keller has some high end homes on 1/2 acre from 500k up to 800k on wooded lots. (but rare to find an acre)

5 stones, You are right. I am looking for privacy and can see that the lot size will make little difference. I've decided to look for 1/2+ acres. Our business has a couple large trailers and trucks so we do need a larger lot. Thanks for the info!

and you are going to have to consider zoning restrictions for neighborhoods that have HOA rules--
personally I would not want to own home in area where people are parking business trailers and large trucks in open sight
that is one reason we rules out several neighborhoods with larger lots--they DID allow people to park boats/campers/trailers where they would be visible from the streets
