Default Options for getting from airport to Arlington

Hi there, I know it's early, but I'm beginning to plan my trip to Arlington to go to a Rangers game. From what I read there is no public transit in Arlington, so I'm wondering what my options are for getting from the airport to Arlington.

I'd rather not rent a car, and I'm not opposed to taking the train from the airport and taking a cab from the train station.

Most likely I'll be flying into DFW.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

If the only thing you will be doing is going to the game, then the cab route might be fine. If you plan on doing more, you will come out cheaper renting a car to get where you are going. Public Transportation is extremely limited and cabs are not cheap.

I haven't really looked into all that Arlington has to offer. I'm probably coming out towards the end of April and it looks like Six Flags will be closed. So I'm thinking of just going to the Rangers game, maybe stay a day (depending on what there is to do) and then head out.

If I get a hotel near the Rangers ballpark, are there things to do in that general vicinity?

Thanks for the reply!

Rent a car. Seriously. For LESS than the price of the cab from the train station, you can likely rent a small car!

Rangers Ballpark sits kind of in the middle of a field of parking lots for it and the Cowboys Stadium. The nearest hotel is the Sheraton, but there is nothing else within walking distance. There are some awesome restaurants within a 5-minute drive, but that would be a LONG walk! Google Maps

Six Flags is usually open during the weekends only in April.

Cowboys stadium, across the parking lot from The Ballpark, has Kenny Chesney in mid April, but nothing else showing for April right now, so you would have to check back to see if there were anything while you will be here. You may be able to book a tour of the stadium as well.

You might also be able to take a tour of The Ballpark.

Just north of The Ballpark is the Arlington Convention Center which sometimes has events that are open to the public and fun to take in. We've been to the miniature train convention there before just for the heck of it and really enjoyed it. No clue what might be there when you come, but it's worth remembering to check out.

East on I30 is a Ripley's Believe It or Not and Palace of Wax.
Round the corner from that is Verizon Theater that may have an event then, though nothing shows on their calendar at the moment.
The Grand Prairie Air Hogs baseball team also plays adjacent to the theater and may have started their season by then, though I don't know when they usually start.

Those are just some of the possibilities

you can take a tour of cowboy stadium at a price
there are some good restaurants --Piccolo Mondo right across 30 from Lincoln Sq shopping center being one of the best/closest--new Babe's Chicken close to UTA downtown--excellent home-style-served version of fried chicken/steak/catfish plus veggies

From Arlington to downtown FTW/Sundance Sq is maybe 15 min w/o bad traffic
further to Dallas
Lots to do in Sundance--the Dueling Piano bar for one--where Big Ben of the Steelers was hanging out one night this past Super Bowl week
lots of good restaurants
You can google for lots of options--check Dallas Observer page--usually has activities listed
same with Sundance Square or The Stockyards FTW
Arlington has one or two comedy clubs, a little theater, and some bars/clubs--but not really the same level as Dallas does

I would rent a car. If you are coming from the DFW airport, to get to the general area of the Rangers Ballpark is simple. Just exit the south exit of the airport and follow the signs to 360 South. It won't be more than 5 minutes or so before you his the area with the ballpark. There are plenty of hotels around there, but a car would be nice to have to get around.

There are also great restaurants, including J Gilligans, which has been featured on the travel channel for their Irish Nachos. Gilligans is on Abram St., not too far from the ballpark. If you go west on Abram a few more blocks you can also eat at Babe's Chicken, which I finally went to a few weeks ago and absolutely loved everything about it.

and there is no train from DFW to Arlington--no public transport but cabs really because the Arlington hotels--even the Sheaton--do not have pickups for guests

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll go the car rental route. Probably the cost of the taxi would cover the rental.

I neglected to mention I'll be coming with my 11 year old, so the "out and about" stuff would need to be kid friendly.

Thanks again (I'm sure I'll be posting again for other recommendations as the trip gets closer).

FTW has great museum of science with lots of kid-friendly exhibition
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History |

the FTW zoo is pretty good and last year opened a new reptile space that is freaking awesome called MOLA--museum of living art
the zoo also holds "overnighters" but probably that would be too much trouble for your son
Fort Worth Zoo - Homepage
there are Zoo Saturday classes in April -- check the link-- and on April 16 the Zoo Run so that might not be good day because of the crowds

but they are both certainly worth a visit and since april weather is not always predictable being inside might be a good call...
FTW Stockyards area north of town has historical area with old west flavor and also has rodeo
Stockyards Championship Rodeo and Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show Fort Worth, Texas
calendar there only shows into March but might just not be programmed for months past march
