dalworthington gardens is small town inside arlington--has its own police dept/city hall--uses aisd schools--mixed type of residential--some older homes from 40-50s on acre type lots--some subdivisions--most of newer housing I would say is expensive--DWG is very safe according to guy who lives there and works w/my husband...

Traci,
You may want to look at Grapevine if you want to be by a lake. Great schools, Great history, Great real estate appreciation, and a great atmosphere. This is one of the best cities I have ever lived in.
Phil

Grapevine is changing. It's been invaded by illegal aliens. Just a word of caution because the face of the area is changing. I'd go a bit further into Denton county.

I second Dalworthington Gardens - except is isn't by a lake like you're wanting. It's considered a "move up" area for my part of Arlington for kids can stay within the same schools depending where in DWG they live. One part is in Martin HS zone (very desirable) and the other is in Arlington HS zone. Homes in DWG are expensive ranging from roughly $350K to over $1M. Some are more including one giant thing that looks like it was airlifted from Florida and dropped down in DWG. It has been for sale forever and was originally around $5M. It'll be a hard one to sell. Lake Arlington isn't too far, either, but it wouldn't be lakeside living by any stretch. There are some pretty areas near Lake Arlington - very hilly and wooded with beautiful homes.

Grapevine's attributes far outweigh some minor issues with well behaved "illegal aliens". The school district is far better than Arlington along with much much less crime. The Downtown area gets more popular every year and it's one of the only places left that still has some genuine atmosphere. Plus housing prices are still reasonable. It's a jewel compared to Arlington which is on a slow downward spiral. Any long timer in Arlington will tell you this. DFW airport is a job engine. Many companies desire to locate near there, in the long term this area will appreciate much more so than Arlington/Duncanville/Mansfield.
