Default Is Carrollton a good area to look for housing for a family of 4? Moving to the DFW becoz of job relocation in Arlington.

Hi,

I need some help from the locals who know the HEB, Colleyville, Grapevine, Carrollton, Frisco area. We are open to all suggestions. We are looking for good High Schools and housing. I am kind of leaning toward Carrollton. Does someone know which neighborhood is good? Love trees, greenbelt, water or lake. Is it a good place for families? Thanks so much!!

Job is in Arlington.............. Take off your list: Carrollton and Frisco. Talk about a BEATING of a drive. Stick to HEB, Colleyville, Grapevine areas.

Carrollton is my favorite of the burbs you have listed because its so diverse, but if youre job is in Arlington, that would be an awful commute.

Like the others have said, that commute would be terrible. NE Tarrant County and maybe Mansfield will be better bets.

The southwest area of Arlington has some ok schools. If the job is in North Arllngton look in Colleyville or North Euless (Bear Creek area 76039) both in the Grapevine/Colleyville School District. Mansfield would be ok for South Arlington. Here's a link....select school district and then look on map to see school ratings.

TEA ratings for Dallas - Fort Worth area schools

Arlington is diverse as Carrolton if that's what your looking for. I don't find much at all appealing about Carrolton.

LD Bell HS in HEB ISD--Bedford area--
top IB school in the state right now, has nationally recognized band program
HEB ISD is in fairly good shape from what I have read in paper regarding the funding crisis and the district is wanting to have bond election to gain money to refurbish technology and some other areas like gym changing areas and some sports fields--
those have not been upgraded in probably 12 yrs or so--since their construction--

Bedford has older neighborhoods with lots of mature trees--no real greenbelt neighborhoods except maybe Tara which is in Colleyville city limits but HEB ISD school limits and is zone for Bell HS
those homes are less expensive per ft than similar home in Grapevine Colleyville ISD in rest of Colleyville

Bedford would be much easier commute to Arlington than Carrollton

Best schools in Arlington are in SW part of the town
think Arlington ISD is going to be hit pretty hard by funding crisis

you might also consider (within a reasonable commute) the NRHills area--city is putting together good parks dept with bike/jogging trails in area around HOme Town
I don't particularly care for that neighborhood because of small lots, narrow streets and alleys--but it is zoned into really good school in Richland ISD

With no price point given it is kind of hard to suggest neighborhood areas

Bedford, Euless, Hurst or Mansfield. I've lived in the area more than 50 years, and those cities have decent schools and some nice neighborhoods.

Grapevine has the lowest property taxes and best resale value. I agree that we need to know a price range to make more specific recommendations.

Carrollton would be a horrible commute, Grapevine would be a perfect fit for your criteria but not sure what your budget is, HEB is more established than most and for the most part has good schools, SW Arlington has good schools but it pretty new so you might have to sacrifice the greenbelt but it is diverse. Mansfield also has good schools but not as diverse as SW Arlington. Please feel free to write me if you have any other questions.
