Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, it's a shame that the citizens of Keller have vetoed this vote, though I do understand that some spending by KISD does have a lot to be desired for!.

My issue is why did a a resident from Carroll ISD have to take part in organizing anti-vote league?.

I thought about that, too... and, well....

I guess it's the "big picture" thing.

Keller ISD taxes are absurd.

KELLER ISD = 1.53%

SOUTHLAKE ISD = 1.42%
BIRDVILLE ISD = 1.43%
NORTHWEST ISD = 1.38%

Throwing more money at a problem doesn't fix anything. The parents need to get more involved in their children's schooling.

you can't compare Keller to Southlake or NWISD.
here's why... Southlake home prices are quite a bit higher, so they pay more $$ in taxes.
Plus they have alot more retail tax dollars comming in. MUCH smaller district, not having to build the ammount of new schools etc...
NWISD...they have Robin that gives them more $$$ and with the hotels, Alliance airport, and the speedway they too get quite a bit of external tax revenue. agin smaller district just added 2nd HS

Birdville would be pretty good comp, however it is a smaller district.

Default It's true...

I'm not one to jump to KISD's defense however, 5stones is right about the number of schools Keller has to build, and continue building almost annually.

The KISD superintendent says that Keller ISD adds roughly 2,000 new students each year - if the number is accurate than that is something Carroll (Southlake) Birdville and Northwest simply do not have to deal with.

The parents need to get more involved in their children's schooling.
that is a generality that does not fly in many cases--
many parents are uneducated or wrongly opinionated about many factors that cause a child to perform poorly in school...throwing more wrong-headed attitude into the mix is not helpful to anyone

I would really like to know the break down of that tax vote--
how many voters are recent Keller residents (say within 3 yrs)
how many voters are from out-of-state originally vs TX natives
how many voters have school-age children vs no children or out of school age

how many voters actually have been IN a Keller school...

I'm not sure I get your point. I think parent involvement is a MUST regardless of what taxes are passed or not. I guess I'm not connecting the dots or understanding the points you are trying to make.

You don't live in the KISD either so I'm not sure what vested interest you have.

I can tell you as a KISD resident that I think our district leaders should focus on running operations just as much as they're focusing on expansion. I have had less than desirable experiences with teachers in KISD and while raising these concerns to the Principal, little is done to correct the problems. Let's just say principals believe the teacher, not the parents or the students.

LOTs of retirees were voting where I voted.

Also that the KISD Families for Fiscal Responsiblity... was headed up by
Giovanni Capriglione, a conservative activist from Southlake. Still really leaves a poor taste in my mouth. Many KISD people were swayed by them and did not know they were from outside the district.

In a matter of weeks, the group raised over $10,000 and drew more than 500 supporters on Facebook.
.... Capriglione, who lives in the neighboring Carroll school district.
It does look like quite a few teaching and fine arts jobs are going to be saved for 2011-12

I have had the opposite reaction in the HS, a group of parents together with the ASst. Prinicpal. It was obvious that the teacher should no longer be in a classroom setting, and it did take time but in the end they listened and it was resolved.

Now, I know that NO district is perfect, I KNOW for a fact that families are having issues with teachers in Carroll ISD and also in Coppell ISD. There are BAD teachers in EVERY district and BAD Administators in every district.

I also know if you get (like I did) a group of parents ALL with the same issues and complaints and really keep on top of the issue etc... things are more likly to get resolved. BUT you also have to realise that sometimes personality issues come up between a parent and teacher and the parent can ONLY see thier side thier childs side etc... and no matter what the reality is at school that parent will NEVER admit fault or that fault lies with the child.
Just like we teach our kids when thye have problems...there is two side to every story, i am only hearing YOUR side so I can not judge without knowing ALL the facts from BOTH sides.

at least I did not throw money to defeat the Keller tax initiative like the guy from Southlake Carroll did--
bet he is a TeaParty radical...who says one thing and does another

my point was that some parents are no help in getting students involved in a positive way--

and I think many of the voters have even less of a connection or desire for quality schooling in Keller than I do--admittedly I live in another ISD but firmly believe in the necessity for and postive impact of quality PUBLIC education--
and I would vote for tax increase in MY ISD if needed
