The metro is a big place Fort Worth to Dallas to visit Family can be an easy 50-100 mile round trip
depending on Point A to Point B.
Have you checked the job listings with TWC or any other job board.
The rule of thumb is to live close to work. You may want to live in Fort Worth, Family in Dallas, and
end up working some twenty miles away in a third direction.
If I may request, find yourself a job first, find yourself a convenient place to live and hopefully
afterwards other items will succeed.

Hi loves2read! To answer your question, we're not limiting ourselves to Arlington, but we're not ruling it out, either. There is an absolutely wonderful neighborhood on Lake Arlington with its own marina that we love. And, I really like Interlochen - but given the schools that the area feeds - we'd have to commit to homeschooling through HS, which I'm not sure we want to do. And, given the surrounding area just outside the gates of Interlochen - I'm a little concerned about the area 20 years from now.

We drove through Bedford a couple of weeks ago, and wow - it was nothing like I remember it being even just 10 years ago. I remember it being like a "5/8 scale" version of Colleyville - almost just as nice, but still attainable for average people - but now it just seems a little run down. Street signs were crooked, lots of "for lease" signs, and the like. Same for Keller. There was even a payday advance company along highway 26 near the Brentwood area of Colleyville. Is the whole area just going this way? Was D/FW developed so fast way back in the 1980s and 1990s that now that the 20-30 year old bits are just old and tired?

Arlington, Texas is of course located in the middle of the DFW Metroplex.

Coming from Colorado, and Arizona - other than for the reason of seeking employment opportunities - is a mistake.

I have lived in West Arlington - an excellent residential area know as Wood Forest & Wood Forest West which is a low-crime, quiet area with up-scale homes, and 10 minutes from 3 excellent medical centers Texas Health (Arlington Memorial = the Best), Medical Center of Arlington, and USMD - all of which are an easy commute.

The SW (Green Oaks area) although "newer" is experiencing significant crime rates.

If you are open to the San Antonio area - that would be my recommendation.
New Braunfels, Texas is a relatively easy commute into San Antonio where medical facilities abound. New Braunfels is a nice "Germanic" community and is the County Seat for Comal County - a strong plus for jury duty, and other court issues. Excellent location for medical professions, and specialty contracting.

Temple, Texas has Scott & White Teaching Hospital and is always looking for nurses. Not sure about your career. It is a small town..Belton 5 miles away is scenic with 2 lakes. It starts to look a bit like hill country (a bit ) Great cost of living while still competitive salaries. Driveable no-traffic commutes can be made over to Killeen, Ft Hood if needed. Climate is warm and drier than Colorado. About a 2 1/2 hr drive to Dallas, 1 hr. to Austin.

Well because most Arlingtonites don't have a need to go there unless you are looking for absolute the cheapest housing one can find. No real retail or commercial entities outside of industrial type businesses that abut 360.

I've lived in North Arlington for about 10 years and love it.

The criticisms other people are giving Arlington equally apply to Fort Worth and Dallas as well.

Yes the traffic is bad at times, but the city is laid out like a grid so you can always cut over to the next street unlike Fort Worth and Dallas.

Yes, there are bad parts of the city, but not nearly as bad as Grand Prairie, Southeast Fort Worth, or South Dallas. West, Southwest, The Entertainment District, The Parks/Highlands, and North Arlington are perfectly safe.

The good news is things are actually getting better, unlike previous posts state. The city has records tax income from the stadium to reinvest in the community, there is a new billion dollar development called "Viridian" being built in North Arlington, property taxes are low, housing is more affordable than Fort Worth and Dallas, General Motors is doing a massive expansion, and so on.

Arlington is a great city for middle class, or upper middle class people to live. Its not fair to compare it to the standards of Highland Park, TCU, Southlake Carroll, Trophy Club, and so on. If you're rich enough to move there then I wouldn't consider Arlington. That being said I think Arlington is better than any other comparable middle class neighborhood in the Metroplex (Hurst, Euless, Irving, Colleyville, Saginaw, Lake Worth, Benbrook, etc.)

We really could not be more disappointed with Arlington. I have lived in New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, and now Arlington. I have never lived any place more frustrating.

We live in north Arlington (north of I-30). The traffic in Arlington is horrendous. The mall is about 8 miles away but we now never go there... it often takes 45 minutes to an hour. Avoid the Parks Mall. We shop online or just drive to Dallas now... haha.
Arlington has terrible roads (bumpy) and are congested. There are hardly sidewalks anywhere... so forget about enjoying living in a walkable neighborhood. We really miss that about Ohio. The town is incredibly ugly as well... just full of strip malls, fast food, and convenience stores. It is just depressing. We live down the street from the Dallas Cowboys stadium/Rangers Ballpark. We were shocked (and still are) at how terrible the surrounding area is. The stadium was 1 billion dollars (I've been told), but yet the neighborhood around it is PayDay loan shops, pawn shops, dirt lots... just depressing. Usually stadiums are in nice downtown areas that are walkable to restaurants and shopping... not here. No way. Why is it not in Dallas?!

Arlington is close to Fort Worth and close(ish) to Dallas, but it is such a depressing place and I would recommend avoiding it. We like to visit our friends in Dallas... walkable, tree lined streets, and less traffic congestion. We do not have kids so cannot say anything about the school system.
I currently live in Ohio and am preparing to move to Arlington. I have two small kids. what are some of the best companies to look for. I'm in the IT field, Like Tech support, help desk, etc call center type work? how did you start your move from Ohio?
