Default Opinions on Electric Service

Hello everyone, I wrote earlier asking for help with the Hurst area. Well we decided on Euless instead and have found an apartment at the Vaucluse. My next big question is who to go with for electric service. I've checked out the two providers that have a website and they seem to be comparable. Can anyone tell me anything good or bad about your electric provider so I can make an informed decision. We will be moving on October 7th but I need to have it all set up before than. Thanks in advance, Jenna

Well we have TXU, it is expensive, but through all the lightning and thunder, we didn't lose power once. I have heard positive things about Reliant as well.

I did price research on electric providers back in the spring. Sparks Energy seemed to be the best choice for me due to its low rate and no monthly fee. I got tired of TXU's high rates and $5.xx monthly fee. I'm on the month-to-month plan since I prefer no or short contracts if given the choice.

We use Green Mountain

They maybe higher than some of the others though, we locked into a three year deal before electric prices shot up. Actually, as far as the service goes, TXU is still responsible for the power wires and service so if you have an outage it's TXU anyway.

This is true. Regardless of who you send your check to TXU is still responsible for your lines. These other companies just buy up the power from TXU in bulk to get a better price per kwh. Then they sell it to you. You may get a better deal or you may not get a better deal as opposed to going through TXU. I just pay my bill straight to the evil empire. They end up with the money anyway.

Actually, Oncor Electric Delivery is responsible for the lines. They used to be part of TXU but were split off due to deregulation. (Family member is in the business.)

We use Reliant and it is definitely cheaper than TXU. We do the average billing, and our bill has gone DOWN two months in a row!

Ah, I see. But regardless of who you choose to pay the quality of service is completely independent. Like above poster who said they maintained power through the storm. That's got nothing to do with who your provider is. It's not like there are separate grids for each individual electric company.

Ever since I left TXU in the spring for Spark Energy, I've been getting bribe offers from TXU to switch back to them. They're latest is $75 credit if I sign a 3-yr. contract w/ TXU. No way!!!

I have noticed also with apartment complexes you may not have the option to choose. We just got an apt in Keller and we couldnt choose. We have Tri-County Electric and they seem ok so far. No troubles and their rates seem lower than what I have seen through other companies.
