Default Fort Worth with kids - best schools?

I am considering a move to FW, but want to stay close to the center of town - not in the suburbs. I have 2 elementary school kids. What are the areas with the best elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in town? I'd prefer public elementary schools. I have heard there are NO good public high schools in FW, so I'd consider private for high school. Can anyone weigh in on that?

We've just moved here from out of state and have our kids in Tanglewood ES and McLean 6th Grade. Both feed into Paschal HS. We have been told by numerous people that Tanglewood is great, and based on only 2 days of school, I can say "so far, so good." Paschal also has a good reputation as public city high schools go (in particular, has a very high number of merit scholars). McLean Middle, like many middle schools, may be the weak link. However, McLean 6th grade (which is a separate facility, with separate principal and teachers) has a good reputation. From what we understand, historically some people sent their kids to private school for the middle school years, rather than send them to McLean . However, I get the impression that is changing as the school's reputation improves.

Tanglewood is near TCU in a beautiful part of town. It took us a while to find a house there and, particularly because the school is in such high demand, it tends to be one of the pricier neighborhoods in FW.

Best of luck.

think Daggett or Doggett is good elementary--check the TAKS scores/ratings for exemplary elementary in FWISD--there are several...and definitely stay in Paschal zone--people wait in line each spring overnight, sometimes two nights to sign up for transfer from EAstern Hills or one of the other FW high school zones for Paschal ...

I heard the Eagle Mountain school district in Saginaw is really good. Well, that was the selling point my realtor told me when I moved here (and I don't even have any kids). I also verified w/ a couple other sources. Saginaw is in the NW part of FW.

I taught in the FWISD for 20 years... check out the high academic programs in the FWISD high schools if your children qualify. They also have these in middle schools... William James and Morningside Middle are two of them. These were once called "magnet schools." My son attended the School for Engineering and Computer Science (at Dunbar HS) and it was an excellent choice for him. There are also Medical Schools, Fine Arts, International, etc. Students are bussed into these schools from their homes. Pascal HS and Southwest HS are probably two of the most popular choices in HS, but they are not in the downtown area. FWISD has some excellent schools in the system and some not so great...so take a good look, research the area, visit the school, before deciding where to live.

I would think twice to have my child at Eagle Mountain Ele schools. Speaking of experience it has been a nightmare for us to communicate with the teachers - they show no respect to parents or children needs - and it amazing to see the racial profile we have experienced. As a person of the media (both my husband and I ) we were amazed how we were treated and as far as my child.. it worse for her b/c she endured much emotional pain - for example; being ignored, yelled at to make her feel ashamed of her doings, and worst of all she over heard all the gossip that went on through the staff - to say the least.. they would talk about on another so loud .. that students over heard.

No professionalism at all - we have pulled my daughter from EMISD and found a happier place for her - it is so sad.. that one or two schools can ruin it for them all -

I am blessed my daughter is a bright student and was commanded for her TAKS -

Parent - FTW
