Default Forth Worth Or Bust-Renting An Apartment

Happy New Year ALL!!

Ok...I have searched all the threads for Ft Worth and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I might have the opportunity to work in Ft Worth on 8th Av.

I would like to RENT.

I would like to spend between $800-$1000-there about.

What neighborhoods and or zip codes should I consider renting in?

The possible opportunity is in the 76104 zip.

I am 55. I love walkable area-coffee-restaurants-local shops….But not limited to... Think Bishop Street in Oak Cliff. I am not much into the bar scene-but will occasionally go out. Also gay friendly.

I love smaller complexes- but not limited to.

No burbs.

Ok-Get your thinking hats on and let me read your suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

The area of 76104 can be a hit or miss ( stay west of hospital district. Note: check crime spotter reports.) The area is building up though. As far as walk ability and going out for coffee and such: You should check places around or like the firestone apartments, Montgomery Ward lofts (North of I-30 and west of 76104 zip). Hopefully you can find something within your price range there.

I would think the area between Hemphill and 8th which is better known as the Fairmount Historic District would also have some acceptable rentals. The strip along Magnolia Avenue is a walkable area with a number of well known places such as The Paris Coffee Shop, a local icon and Southside fixture. Having said all of that, the areas mentioned by RockyJoe are also good choices. Lot's of newer apartments also on the near Southside as well and most have very good security and low crime. If you are comfortable in Oak Cliff you should have no problems in the near Southside area. Hemphill street and points east to I-35 are sketchy but to the west of Hemphill is generally safe assuming you use common sense and pay attention to your surroundings. You mentioned being gay-friendly...the Rainbow Lounge, a gay club which received some negative national attention after a notorious raid a few years ago. (but the public outcry it generated actually helped strengthen and improve local gay rights policies) is off Jennings street which is in the near Southside area. Hope you check out all of these areas before deciding...all of them have their benefits and drawbacks. Good luck!
