Question Stench in mid cities area air

Yesterday afternoon my husband who works in Euless smelled an awful stench in the air. I was at home in Hurst, and could also smell it. We hoped the rain would knock it out but apparently, it made it worse. It is really bad near Bell Helicopter.

Anyone else smell this and know what its from? Its really gross. This morning I was stopped a light and nearly gagged, yes... it is that bad.

I've smelled a sewer-like smell on 183 right as I'm entering Euless. Pretty nasty and it's only for about 2-3 miles... is that what you're talking about?

Apparently Fort Worth crews are 'working' on the top of a garbage dump....meaning using tractors to manipulate everything around and stirring up all the trash. The rain has made it much worse!

Its landfill gas. They have to vent it because it could be explosive. Same thing for the sewer lines. Every now and then there will be a sewer vent to get rid of the sewer gas, as it can be explosive if left to build up.

When they retire the landfill they top it off and there is no more smell.

Channel 5 reports that a contractor illegally dumped sewer sludge in a field. City of FW is working to get it cleaned up.

Here is an update on Hurst FB page and a statement provided by City of Fort Worth

The odor is from biosolids applied by a city of Fort Worth contactor to a tract of land used for growing hay. The site is permitted by TCEQ for Class A Biosolids application. Biosolids are nutrient-rich material created from the processing of wastewater. In Fort Worth, the biosolids are applied to local agricultural land. Biosolids act as great fertilizer and as a soil stabilizer. The unusual weather conditions for this time of year consisting of warm temperatures and wet, heavy, high humid air is keeping the air close to the ground and causing the odors to be noticeable.
