Me and me wife are moving to Burleson were a young black couple. I wanted to know is this a good place for us. Also, how far is Burleson from Ft. Worth and Dallas, is it far?

Burleson is just South of Fort Worth about 10 miles and about 25 or 30 miles from Dallas. I kind of doubt that you'll find any kind of blatant racism there. The whole DFW metroplex is pretty diverse with just about every race represented. That's not to say that you might encounter an a__hole now and then, but you can pretty much encounter that anywhere, sadly. I think you'd like Burleson, it's a nice town. I can't speak from a black person's perspective though. Hopefully someone who is will chime in. I wish you and your wife the very best wherever you end up. I'm sure Texas would love to have you here.
Cheers, |

We just moved to Burleson this summer and we love it here. The area is mostly white, but I do see black people everywhere I go. Everyone I have met so far has seemed very open minded and friendly, so I think you would enjoy it here!
As for how far from Ft. Worth- I don't make that commute often but I would figure 25-30 minutes with traffic to get downtown. |

We live far south Fort Worth, almost to Burleson in the Fox Run/Poynter Crossings neighborhood. We are a white family but many of our neighbors are black. All very friendly. We haven't experienced any racism & feel comfortable in our neighborhood.
If you're not 100% set on Burleson consider looking for a home in the 76123 area. Good luck wherever you & your family end up! |

Boy am I glad to hear more black folks are moving to Burleson. My husband and I are building a house with Meritage homes and it should be completed in mid december. From whatg I hear it is a very nice town with good schools and lots of shopping and restuarants.

so would you say the 5th ward in Houston is a racist part of Houston? You probably wouldn't. But, if I walked through the streets there being white..... I probably wouldn't make it out with all my belongings. Racism is two ways buddy.

Right racism is two ways...but the member is asking about Burleson (not Houston). In this case, you maybe should post a separate thread about Houston. Burleson is a very open-minded area with many people who dont think negative about the existence of racism, great place to live overall. Houston...may be another story buddy.

Please move there. Burleson doesn't have the best history for race relations but recent history is better. The DFW area grows more and more diverse by the day... seriously! Do to the good pay and reasonable cost of living tons of people from all over the country are moving there. I lived there for 6 yrs and just left... wasn't my kind of place but that's because I am ultra-ultra liberal and Texas is not that kind of place (yet)lol. Texas needs more people like yourself and your wife. The times, they are a changin' and thank goodness for that. You'll find your niche and it will be a good place for you and your family. Good luck!

My 20-something year old sister-in-law, her husband, and their 1 year old just moved to a Choice Home community in Burleson last Summer. They are black and haven't had any race problems that I know of. Like most of the other posts have said, the area is mostly white, but it is rapidly growing and becoming more diverse.

I have lived in Burleson for three years now. I moved here from North Caroilna. I lived in an area that was 30+% black, and I am white. Throughout life I have had very close AA friends.
When my wife and I moved here we were in temp. housing while our home was constructed. People at my job found out I was building a home in Burleson. I heard comments like, "You must not like blacks... Keeping it all white, huh?" I was devestated. I asked why people thought that. My co-workers said Burleson was known for having "race issues." We completed our home and moved in. I have not seen or heard any racial tensions since moving here. What you need to understand is that Burleson used to be a small country town with like 3 redlights. It has now grown north to meet Fort Worth. This growth has brought many more diverse people to the area. My neighborhood is somewhat upscale for Burleson (median home price is about 220k), and we have several AA families. The most expensive house in our subdivision is owned by an AA family. Burleson is also near zip code 76140, which is 41% black. The Burleson chamber has black members and it is VERY influential in town. Lots of people come out to Burleson from S Fort WOrth to shop and eat because there are so many new stores and restuarants. This makes the community more diverse. Please do not let an old reputation disuade you from coming out to Burleson. We are growing and have such a wonderful atmosphere to offer for a family of any race. |
