Nice to see growth downtown, but there are strip centers going in along 377 and Precinct line out here in the burbs too.
The thing that bothers me is, there are strip centers that are nowhere near full on the same roads.
Last time I saw that was the 80's. The bottom fell out of the housing market, the price of gas skyrocketed, and stocks fell like crazy.
Kinda sounds like now, huh?
The $1 million condo is probably the one at Onmi Throckmorton. I contacted them for the heck of it. 1 bedroom condos are starting at $400k!

I forgot to mention that I like the Christmas lights that the downtown "skyscrapers" (to use that word loosely) have. You can see the lights from almost 10 mi. away! But it's not as "impressive" as when you approach downtown Dallas while traveling on I-30.

colt 357--as far as building retail space that stays unoccupied--thank your city hall and planning boards who are only looking at getting tax money from the ventures--and never know how to say NO to new development...

and you are right to see a doppleganger of the 80s---don't you think this sub-prime mortgage/credit bust will wind up being the Federal bail out of the 21 century--so much money was transferred during the past 5 years on bogus value that it could have changed the world --- unfortunately it went into the hands and bank accounts of a relative small percentage of men (certainly did not stay in the coffers of the companies making the money I can ga-run-tee -- check out Countrywide Financials balance sheet for an example)...because housing is one of the legs this country or any country supports its economy with, the Fed/Congress will have to do someting over the next 2 years to bolster what will certainly crumble--foreclosures are pegged to double in next couple of months...

Sorry for the OT post--

regariding skyline--I just think that change for the sake of change is the worst type of change...

I still say we need to grow when it comes to the skyline. As far as ground level goes, Ft. Worth will get alot more. Downtown will definately grow out in the next decade or so, but it just seems like no one wants to build UP.

In the past 20 years, the tallest buildings in the city have been those same boxy towers. I just want to see it grow... that's all I'm saying.

l2r, I'm not saying FW should just change the skyline for the heck of it. It should try to continue to recruit businesses (such as from Dallas) and encourage them to set up shop in downtown FW. Where? In a new high-rise building, of course!

That would bring in more money and jobs to the city, not to mention improve the skyline.
