I don't live in the Metroplex, but judging from Fort Worth's impressive population growth over the past several decades I can certainly see Fort Worth exceeding Dallas' population in the near future.

Here are some things to consider:

1. Fort Worth isn't almost completely surrounded by incorporated suburbs. They can annex new areas to help grow their population

2. Fort Worth's population increase in just this past decade almost is equivalent to Dallas' population increase collectively since 1980!!

3. Dallas didn't even gain a whole 1% population increase from 2000-2010.

If Fort Worth can maintain it's impressive population increase and Dallas remains fairly sluggish, Fort Worth will surpass Dallas in the 2030 census. If so I will start refering to the Dallas Fort Worth area as the FWD area

Agreed. I think we're fighting an uphill battle though. A lot of new growth is occurring or planned in far North Fort Worth. The GE Locomotive Plant, new FAA Regional HQ and some other projects. Also, when construction on Hwy 114 through to Grapevine is complete, that's likely to spur new development.

The TRV project, west and 7th, and near Southside will help in the vertical growth department of Fort worth.

No, it's NOT. Not one single person is wanting Fort Worth to be bigger than Dallas.

The guy who brought it up isn't even from the area.

I got the Hemphill/Berry Villages confused with the Villages At Samaritan House. That's where my friend lives.

Who cares if fort worth passes up Dallas? If it does it will be from sprawl. There won't be a sky scraper boom in fort worth because there is no demand for one. West 7th street is the first big urban development in fort worth since sun dance square, and it's dead on weekdays. It's a shame it used to be fun to visit my friends out there. Plus they closed the Mac's grill! The Montgomery ward building is equally unimpressive. A lot of the projects are in foreclosure because o lack of demand. No one does. People in Fort Worth certainly don't and that point has already been made here.

....with unfounded claims, too. If Fort Worth is "dead" on weeknights, I'd love to hear what he thinks of Dallas. Tumbleweeds don't count as people or nightlife activity.

Oh, I was gonna say something about that, but figured that i'd be better if someone else say it for me. I was too tired last night.
