Why doesn't Arlington belive in public transit? (Fort Worth, Irving: limo, home)

I know they voted it down, and the reason is to keep ghetto people out. I started a thread and this subject came up, but the thread is closed. I hate Texas

A city with 300,000 people has plenty of people who would take the bus, especially with such popular destinations like the Entertainment District.

I went shopping yesterday evening in south Arlington (Cooper & I-20 area), and it's just as ghetto as central Arlington in terms of people types. The only difference is that the buildings aren't 50 years old and falling down.

Twice I was asked for money. It's really annoying, especially when it's inside the store. These scumbuckets are everywhere! Obviously your plan to keep them out by banning city buses didn't work. At least let them take the bus and cut down on the traffic a little so I can get home sooner.

Because there are not many businesses in Arlington. Everyone drives out of town to go to work.

To answer your rant... I'm not sure any large city is scumbag free.

If Arlington ever get public Transportation it would most likely be The "T" expanding into arlington.So its kinda Ft.Worths responsibility too.

I believe the T did run a shuttle service from Arlington to downtown Fort Worth for a period of time, and discontinued it.

Jerry Jones sucked all the available money out of Arlington to build his play land. That cost Arlington enought they could have provided everyone free Limo service.

What do you mean, there aren't many businesses in Arlington? There are thousands, most of whom have employees. I only know of one near me with no employees (just the owner), and that's the smoke shop around the corner. The other 12 or so businesses in that shopping center have employees, most of whom are poor (that's retail, just the way it is).

The idea of successful people getting on the bus to go to the office at 8:30 AM is a pipe dream anywhere in this state. I know it's not NJ or Chicago or even Los Angeles (people do that there, just not a whole lot).

The whole purpose of a city bus system in a place like the Metroplex is so poor people and cheapies can get a ride at a reasonable cost instead of adding to the traffic with their own car or someone else's car. The vast majority of these people are going to work at some weird time or going to the doctor at whatever time, it's spread out 24/7 with low demand in the middle of the night.

Look at the freeways around here -- rush hour just means more traffic than usual. Not surprisingly, government is stuck in the past trying to manage our lives like it's the 1950's or 1980's.

Would you join "cheapies and poor people" and quit adding to traffic? Are you currently car pooling? BTW - retail = poor just the way it is.

I know retail workers are mostly poor. That's what I said that. Retail shops are all over the place, everywhere but on the freeway itself and inside neighborhoods.

I hardly ever drive so the traffic is certainly not my fault.

not to disparage anyone but have you seen Arlington, driven through some of the areas around the Ball Park and south toward I 20???
that is just nonsensical statment--
Arlington has plenty of low-income people now and it will continue to add to those numbers because of the types of housing it has to offer--cheap...
blocking public transportation has not kept any "ghetto" people out if they wanted to live there IMO--people w/o transportation can find a ride when they need to
and plenty of people on public assistance (and Arlington has quite a few of those) don't care if they have to shop at the convenience store on the corner as long as they take food stamps

Arlington's per capita income has been dropping fairly steadily for the past 15-20 yrs so it is not the suburban mecca it was in the late 70s-early 80s

You might "hate Texas" but Arlington is only one town in TX
if you want to "hate" Texas pick a better reason than the lack of foresight of the Arlington city council for the past 30 years

Recall when Arlington Lamar HS was where all the rich kids went ? Kind of like Irving MacArthur HS.
