From what I've seen in other parts of the country, they tag your license plate each time you pass that toll road. Then at the end of each month they send you a bill of all your tolls. If you're a regular commuter, they offer you a 'FastPass' that you pay one monthly flat rate. Don't know if they'll do it that way though. Just a possibility.

Suppose to be 12 lanes, 8 that are free and 4 where you pay a toll. The toll increase depending on traffic flow so if you want to travel during rush hour you'll pay a higher fee.

Yes, that is supposed to be the plan but just seems likely to cause more frustration than it is worth...
And anyone can see that having those lanes go to toll as traffic increases is not really designed to offset the higher density traffic but to increase their revenue...
My thinking is that people won't pay the toll charge--they will continue to drive in congested lanes...

Update: So we've basically abandoned the idea of finding a place that has similar amenities to where we currently live. We have also completely eliminated the idea of working in Farmer's Branch, I have been approved to work completely from home on my own time, which is great. Basically we are looking for something cheaper and closer to the seminary now. I've seen quite a few places for sale and rent in the South Hills area, but it doesn't look like the best area.

What are your thoughts on renting or buying in South Hills, right off Gambrell Street near Stephens Park?

South Hills is pretty mixed. There are nice parts, but there are also not-so-nice parts fairly close by. You might consider renting for a year to see what you think of the area...

do a crime map
call local police station
rent for 6 mo and see various areas on your own
no need to buy if you are in seminary since you are likely to be moving after that anyway and owning a home for less than 5 yrs (and maybe longer in this RE market) is going to cost you money 99% of the time...
