Hello everyone,

I’m moving back to Texas in 2013 and I’m very curious about Grand Prairie and Mansfield. I’ve visited some areas in Mansfield and Grand Prairie but I have little knowledge of the areas. I particularly LOVED Grand Peninsula and Mira Lagos in South GP but now that I have a new family I’m really concerned about the school district. I really want to get a lot of house for my money which is why I’m looking into these areas. Can anyone comment on these areas? I’ve read different comments on Mansfield ISD, some good and some not too good. Are these areas safe? Although my children are very young, I need to be in good school district as we would like to buy a home. What do I need to know about these cities? Any comments about Fort Worth?
Please note the following:
1. I will mostly be working from home and I can either choose office locations in Arlington, N. Fort Worth, or Downtown Dallas
2. Our budget is Max 350,000
3. We would like to be close to amenities and shopping
4. We would like to stay in a county where Mineral rights will be given to us.
Positive comments are welcomed…thanks!

Mineral rights aren't determined by county. They can be granted by the seller, but many of today's sellers don't even have them because they were retained by the developer or previous property owners. It's something to attempt to negotiate when you sign a contract.

Don't get your hopes up on getting rich off a standard lot's mineral rights. We own ours, and have seen exactly $0.00 from them in the 4 years that we've owned our house. The previous owner got $1500 for signing the contract, but there hasn't been any drilling done in our area.

Grand Penisula & Mira Lagos is great for family. Be sure to consider Homeowner Assoc fees. It's a good location for Waterpark, Baseball, HS sports & whatever else they put in "The Golden Triangle" (probably 10-20 years down the road). School zones change with the growing district. Those that live across from Summit H.S. attend Mansfield H.S. = no guarantees.
