We thought the same thing...but after extensive research and being there looking for a home...don't let the square footage fool you....you need to remember your not getting a basement....which most from PA and OH are used to having in addition to the square footage above the ground.....so your not really getting anything more for the price......

I live in Weatherford, 30 miles west of Ft. Worth and I think you would like it here. Also, since it's a growing place there are jobs to be had here or you can drive to west Ft. Worth with little problems. There are excellent schools here including a very good junior college.

If I was in your shoes I'd look in Collin county, north of Dallas. Most of those cities, Plano Richardson, Carrollton, McKinney, Allen etc. should meet your needs. Good schools, safe, generally conservative values, plenty of churches, They've really improved the transportation system in the last 10 years, but keep in mind. There are 5 million people there, and its not all bunched up like in the east. Its spread out more, so your commute times might be longer than you want. Northern Tarrant county is also nice, Keller, Grapevine Denton county is also nice. I'd avoid Arlington and Irving.

Any new subdivisions you recommend in Weatherford? Might look to buy or build there.
