I agree I'd rather live in Texas than AL, MS, LA, or most parts of GA but the north Georgia mountain area is really nice.

I so want out of TX because of the heat and am looking in WV, VA, TN, and NC mountain areas. Guess all those places are considered southern states as well, just not the deep south.

I just wish my grown kids would move too as the hardest decision I'm having is, "Do I really want to leave them?" Every fall I think I can stand it here but when summer rolls around again, I wish I had made my move.

Florida - no way would I live in that place.

Default Cisco

Sonshine,
I'm new to this site, but thought I would pass along the following info I found earlier on Cisco. I grew up in Abilene, but spent many hours waterskiing on Lake Cisco, on the small but beautiful lakes in the state. I've always heard great things about Cisco. Good Luck!

Thanks for your offer to help! We went to Cisco and poked around and really like the place so far. We have purchased the property there, and we're pretty sure we're going to build there by next summer. If we change our minds, we know we can sell the property and most likely make a decent profit.

It's still kind of a culture shock to think of moving from the city to the country, but I think it would be a good change for us. We have 3 acres and a few animals right now, and my husband has purchased some old tractors and has been working on them. We've learned a lot about "country life" but still have a lot to learn!

One thing I'm concerned about w/Cisco is that smaller towns many times have an underlying drug problem. For instance, I read on another thread that Ranger (which is 20 or so miles away) has a big meth problem. I was wondering if this is also the case w/Cisco. The crime rate does seem to me to be sort of high for the small population it has. How would I find out more info about the drug problem/crime rate there?

I think the best advice I can give you is to go to the local forum in Eastland. There are several people that were born and raised in Cisco, and alot that have moved in. They can give you an over-all view of thier opinions, for what that is worth! lol... There are 2 main people that I can give you the names they use there that have really good, solid information and they will tell it like they believe it to be.

The message board might be a good way for you to meet some of the people. and maybe make it easier on you to get a general idea on people over all that reside here. But, I also want to warn you about this being a small town atmosphere! lol We all do alot of laughing, bickering and fighting about everything, from how to raise your kids (or our own, lol), what political party is right, who should not have posted what to whom.... We also do alot of praying and trying to help one another when there is someone in need. Everyone on there will have a view that is probably going to be posted.lol

I am going to post an email address where you can get in touch with me, and I will send you the link to the board, if you are interested. One of the ladies I mentioned is the mother of the district attorney in a neighboring county. She is also a past teacher at the Cisco college. She has very, very good, solid information. I THINK she also had worked as a volunteer at the Cisco library for quite a few years, in the recent past, but I might be wrong on that!

My email address where you can reach me is hallie1234@hotmail.com
It is a new account, so if you have problems using it, I will try to check back in here frequently for a few days!

try hadit1234@hotmail.com It will work better! lol

Cool Hmmm.... Cisco.

Well I went to college there. I really hated it, but I'm from Fort Worth and didn't know too many people there. The people that I met were cool. I think the town is very run down and old. So no I wouldnt say that the town was kept up or maintained. The Cisco Junior College smelled like an old nursing home... the whole school! I was living in the city of Eastland at the time and it had a little more to it. But there is a lot of drugs in the community... And if you need to go somewhere after 10 pm, forget it. Every thing is closed! I was needing to go to the bathroom after driving in from Fort Worth and couldnt find ANYWHERE open to go inside. Not even Taco Bell. It was not good. Needless to say I didn't get to the potty in time! Terrible experience! So, I can say the living is Super Cheap! I rented a old 3 bedroom 2 bath house for $275 a month. and there is a really cool radio station out there that people just call up and tell what they are selling or needing and give there number. I herd of people selling wire hangers and even goats on there and thats actually where I heard about the house. I was staying in a hotel and needing something more permenant. It was a blessing. I had been praying, since I was a little standed when I ended up in this town of Eastland. But I got on my feet, went to school, and worked at Sonic... But now I live in Saginaw, Tx just outside of Fort worth and have a beautiful family and we are so stable... Heck I'm even driving a mercedes now. Its amazing what some one can go through and still make it. I was nearly homeless for a while and now doing better than ever and lovin every minute. Sorry about the rant, but that word CISCO... it just really throws me for a loop.

Is the city clean/well maintained?
Unfortunately, Cisco is a dying town. The oil boom passed by a long time ago, and the money left with it. Cisco has virtually no industry aside from the few gas stations and C-stores near I-20. Most of the town's restaurants have closed, so if you want a meal out, you have to drive to Eastland or Clyde. Honestly, I wouldn't move there...and your property value will likely continue to go down!

My brother-in-law attended Cisco Junior College for 1 year on a football scholarship and he hated it. The dorms were falling apart and the classes were a joke. DH and I went to Angelo State, and our professors often made fun of Cisco Junior College, as in "If you can't hack it here, you can always go back to Cisco Junior."

The land there is rolling with a few trees, but it is NOT heavily wooded. (The further west you go in Texas, the fewer trees you will find!)
