Exclamation White Settlement is a Great Place!

I just read all the replies to your questions and I was completly amazed because I have now lived in White Settlement for 5 years and I have never never had any problems. I think that all the people that responed were talking about West side. White Settlement has a great school district in fact that is why we moved to White Settlement I didnt want my kids to go to Fort Worth ISD. They also have a very nice Library, Community Center, and the programs for sports. The parks are very clean with updated equipment. White Settlement is not the Ritz but it is a safe place to live and I would recomment it to everyone!!!! Good luck to you and I hope you will still consider White Settlement.

I grew up in White Settlement and back then we could leave our doors unlocked and on the weekends and during the summers all the kids in the neighborhood would hang out on the corner in front of my house to all hours of the night.
Of course, back then if you weren't in football or band you were nobody and I can remember when the first black family moved there. Luckily for me my very best friend and soulmate was one of those black families that moved in a few houses down. They still live in the area and on the west side of 820.
Sadly, when I drive around White Settlement I find myself thinking that I would not want to move back there. Also, the town is still pretty much football oriented.
If you drive west on White Settlement Road past WestPoint, Silver Creek Estates you get into some really nice areas. What's even better is somewhere back there you fall into the Aledo School district. It's worth checking out.
I grew up around here so if you have any more questions just contact me.

I never lived in White Settlement and not likely ever will - but as a high crime areas go -its not one. Lower incomes and not a lot of upscale homes, but good people. Get online and do your own research. Murders at bus stops? Interesting comment - crime data for zip code 76108 during the nine (9) years from 1999-2007 shows only 3 murders during those years.

Default White Settlement

I also have retired AF in my past, my husband was in the AF for 21 years. I have lived in White Settlement since 1969 and all of my kids graduated from WS schools. Castleberry schools are east of here, nearer downtown FW. White Settlement has a huge School District, as they sold lots of land to FW except for the school district. It goes from the city limits clear out to the Parker County line, and has a brand new huge High School, a refurbished Jr. Hi that used to be the high school. They also have about 6 elementaries, fine arts school, and more I can't even remember. It is supposed to be a very great district.
White Settlement looks much like a small town, which is what is was for many years. It was originally the only "white" settlement outside of FW, as opposed to Indian ones. It has nothing to do with racial issues any more, and has all types of people. There are several areas of new housing, some inside the city limits and some in Westpoint, across the highway into FW territory. The housing was mostly built since after the 2nd World war, our house is solid brick, quite modern, and was only a few years old when we bought it.
Our area so far has not had much of a crime problem, though there a few areas south of here do have. We have separate police, fire, and other services. Many stores and restaurants have moved a short ways east of here, leaving us without many services in WS, but many not far away. We have several buildings sitting empty, including a Wal Mart and Sams Club. They are trying to interest businesses in moving here, and have had some success, but not enough. Buying a home that is older would probably be less than $100 thousand, in the newer areas more like $150 to 200 thousand.
I don't know how many schools are in the Castleberry area, I know 1 high school and one Jr. Hi, don't know how many elem. Much of the growth of FW is going to the north and east areas. It is a great place to live, moderate weather (HOT in summer and occasionally a snow or two in winter)

Default Move to Azle

I would suggest Azle, which is due west and a little north of Fort Worth. It is northeast of Weatherford. Weatherford's land and houses are much more expensive than Azle. Azle has a variety of housing editions, some newer ones as well. We have a great school district. It feels like the country without having to make the long drive to get there. I lived in White Settlement growing up in the 70's and have friends that live there still. It isn't a bad neighborhood but the houses are now older and less kept than they used to be. Across the highway from White Settlement are new housing editions (not sure what that area is called off the top of my head though).

I've lived in Azle for the last 20 years and it has had some growth but not like Weatherford, nor do we have their traffic. It's still has the small town look and feel. We have a super Walmart, Albertsons, Brookshires, etc.). Azle is about 12 miles west off 820 off Jacksboro Hwy (aka Hwy 199).

You may also want to consider some smaller communities outside of Azle (i.e. Boyd, Springtown, Lajunta, Sanctuary - these are all in Parker county and the property taxes are much cheaper than Tarrant county). Azle sits near the Parker and Tarrant County line. Check it out, you'll love it.
